"I just realised that Lillie's childhood takes tropes from past Pokemon protagonists, applies them literally and follows them to their logical extremes. She's kind of a darker reimagining of Red."

Spoilers for Sun and MoonIn Pokemon Sun and Moon, Lillie used to live with her mother, Lusmine. It's implied that, among other weird creepy things that occurred in her childhood, she and Lusamine shared a bed. Lillie's childhood was incredibly sheltered, to the point that she gets lost trying to follow even simple paths because she never left her home. She also had all her clothing picked out for her by Lusamine. She's good friends with the local treenonymous professor and helps him with his Pokemon research. Her father, Mohn, is out of the picture, having inconspicuously disappeared a few years ago. It's worth nothing that Lusamine is the leader of the Aether Foundation. In Pokemon Red, Blue and Green, and many other Pokemon games, the protagonist lives alone with their mother. There's only one bedroom in the house with a single bed, leading to a few jokes about where/if your mom sleeps, sometimes concluding that you share a bed. You spend the first 10 years of your life never leaving a 30 foot radius of your house for fear of being mauled to death by level 2 rats and pigeons. You don't get to pick what you wear, since that wasn't added until X and Y, and in-universe you don't get to pick your shoes as your mom buys you new ones. You're good friends with the local treenonymous professor and help him with his Pokemon research. Your dad is inconspicuously missing, but some people think that Red's dad is Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket.Another major similarity: Lillie leaves home to go on the same adventure Red did and take on the Kanto Pokemon League to become the Kanto champion. There's probably ways to link Gladion to Silver, but then we start getting into stretchy theories about Red and Silver being half-brothers and family trees and such, and it relies on the huge assumption that Giovanni even is Red's father which he's very likely not to be, so forget it. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2fS8Z8j
