"I tried to re-balance pokemon go, here are my results"
#PokemonGO: Hey Guys,Link to Google Doc with all Changes made in below post: http://ift.tt/2iaWNwv made a post about re-balancing the game a week ago. The comments on the post made me question how I was going about it and I decided to give it another go. This time the stats of the pokemon were drastically changed to better fit this game into a 2 attack dps system vs the original 4 attack turn based system.First I changed the way Stam, Atk and Def of pokemon were calculated. Stam is now just the HP stat of the pokemon (I'll explain how this affects HP in a bit), Atk (Now called CAtk, Combined Atk) is now 3/4 of the highest stat plus 1/4 of the lowest stat times 2 plus half of speed, and Def (Now called CDef, Combined Def) is now 1/2 of each defensive stat times 2 plus half of speed. The reason for the break from hyper-specialized pokemon is that it was overpowering some pokemon while making others useless. Def being 50-50 is a touchy subject for some, as the idea is that you can switch pokemon into an attack that is supposed to be weak to them. While I find that to be a valid argument, I see one major flaw, Chansey. In the main games Chansey is used over Blissey because of the item eviolite, which boosts her defenses by 50% causing them to be on par with Blissey after ev investments. What people do is invest the ev's into HP and Def. This allows Chansey to have Def of a high enough value to make her a slight physical wall while Blissey can not take a physical hit at all. Now if we were to believe that only one type of Def is important, than why aren't all Chansey's running 252HP/252SpDef investment rather than 252HP/252Def. This is because of the value of having both defenses at good levels. It allows her to check more pokemon and provide support in greater areas. So the def split is now 1/2 and 1/2.The Atk stat has a minor change from 7/8 or 87.5% to 3/4 or 75% of the highest attack. This was done purely to balance that stats of pokemon. While I agree pokemon only ever have to worry about 1 stat when it comes to attacking, there are benefits to being a mixed attacker. An example would be Salamance with Draco Meteor and physical attacks or Tyranitar with Fire Blast. If we were to only count the highest stat, then pokemon like Alakazam would have a 135 CAtk stat while pokemon like Exeggutor would have 125 CAtk, but Alakazam only has a 50 atk stat in and Exeggutor has a 95, meaning Exeggutor would be losing 95 stat points from his total while Alakazam would only be losing 50. This greatly affects the power of these pokemon in pokemon go. So the amount was changed to 75%.Hp is now calculated using a formula based on the main game. It is as follows =Floor((Stam*(Level/80))+(10+Level/2),1). This boosts pokemon with low Stam stats to have an actual chance against high Stam pokemon, Such as Blissey Vs. Alakazam. This boosts pokemon like Caterpie as well, but their abysmal CAtk and CDef stats will keep them in check. With all these changes pokemon are much more similar in power level than they were before. Pokemon like Crobat and Jolteon are much stronger, while pokemon like Blissey and Rhydon are reined in a bit.The next issue to address is the Cp formula. The current formula is favoring attackers and undervaluing high HP pokemon to the point of insanity. This led to some extremes, such as Pokemon like Blissey being undervalued by 15%!, and pokemon like Deoxys Attack form being Overvalued by 25%! My solution is this, =Floor(((HP/(50/Def))*(Atk/100))+HP,1). This basically calculates their assumed total damage in a fight and adds a bonus for higher HP, because of energy gained by higher HP leading the increased use of charges moves, thus increasing total damage dealt. This brings pokemon like Blissey to being valued within 6% of her average TDD and pokemon like Deoxys Atk beign valued within .11%!These changes would really fix the issues with the eeveelutions and Blissey/Chansey. Ultimately, my goal is to make more pokemon usable and not feel like you are gimping yourself if you do want to use them. Plus these changes would really help if PvP is going to be implemented. My next step is to add abilities into the game. I made a list of abilities needed to cover every pokemon and made it the last tab on the google doc. The numbers are in no way decided and I would love to hear your opinions on them. In case you are wondering, Honey would be a new item which would act as a 1 hour lure and would attract rarer pokemon during that period. Using these in combination with Lure changing pokemon could be very fun and rewarding, such as Magneton "Magnet Pulling" a Metagross to your lure or maybe even 2! via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2yXs2p0
