"Analysis on Pokémon Storage space and a reminder of why we need an increase in the cap to beyond the current 1000."

#PokemonGO: Gen III is right around the corner, Ho-Oh seems to be coming as well, and let's not forget the first ever worldwide release of Farfetch'd (plus Kangaskhan in East Asia). More and more Pokémon and their variants (shiny/hat/whatever) will roll out in the nearest future.Hoarders will hoard, collectors will collect, grinders will grind; some keep a live Pokédex, others keep only the strongest of them all. So this begs the question: Do we really need more Pokémon Storage space? A couple of months back, I posted a calculation on how much space is needed (for Gen I and Gen II) and we were awfully close to 1000: http://ift.tt/2hRIZYa time, let's take into account Gen III as well. For Gen I:126 with gender (both male and female exist).12 with single gender (either male or female only).13 genderless. For Gen II:87 with gender (both male and female exist).5 with single gender (either male or female only).8 genderless. For Gen III:116 with gender (both male and female exist).4 with single gender (either male or female only).15 genderless. Total: (126x2)+12+13+(87x2)+5+8+(116x2)+4+15 = 715.Total (+ different Unown): 715+27 = 742.Total (+ different Unown + all Shiny): 742x2 = 1484. Now, back to reality.Mew, Delibird, Smeargle and Celebi is not out yet (but yeah, I am gonna consider Ho-Oh to be out or at least I think it is coming real soon based on recent news), Shiny Pokémon will not be introduced all at once, and lastly Gen III Legendary/Mythical Pokémon will definitely be held back for now as well.On the other hand, Witch Hat Pichu/Pikachu/Raichu were introduced on top of Santa Hat Pikachu/Raichu (male only), Party Hat Pikachu/Raichu and Ash Hat Pichu/Pikachu/Raichu. Beside the Shiny variants of Pichu, Pikachu, Raichu, Magikarp and Gyarados, the ones for Sableye, Shuppet, Banette, Duskull and Dusclops are also available. Total: 742-6-10+2+(2x2)+(3x2)+(3x2)+(10x2) = 764. Again, we are in reality, so we need to estimate the number of duplicates (whether for rares or for Legendary Pokémon or for Shiny Pokémon, or simply because you wanna have 6 of the same Pokémon for your party to solo a Tier 3 Raid, etc.).Let's say we need 4 extra of some of the rarer Pokémon, and let's say the number of rarer Pokémon from Gen I to Gen III is 60 out of 386; amounting to an estimated 240 extras taking up the Pokémon Storage space.Depending on your play style, 60 could be on the high side, but for those lucky enough, you could potentially have multiple Shiny Pokémon of the same species, or multiple Unown which you could not throw away due to its rarity, or multiple Legendary, and so on and so forth. Grand Total: 764+240 = 1004. Just looking at this rough figure, I would say we need the cap to be increased almost immediately, like maybe right now or tomorrow, or even yesterday. What do you all think? Before I end this, I would like to reiterate one more time that the numbers are a mixture of the ideal case and the reality with some estimations; just to give us an idea of where we are right now and potentially where we could be in the very near future. I do know that different people play differently with different objectives and different habits and whatnot. TL;DR: 386 Pokémon from Gen I to Gen III; 742 considering all the different genders and forms; 1484 if all the Shiny variants are included. To cater for what we have now and the upcoming Gen III Pokémon, we need more space than just 1000. Hence, this is a reminder to Niantic to increase the Pokémon Storage cap. Note 1: Yes, I cheated to make the grand total sit perfectly above 1000! But to be honest, it is not entirely farfetched. :PNote 2: If you need clarification on certain numbers, please sound it off in the comments and I will reply. :DNote 3: If somehow I made some miscalculation, please do correct me. :)Edit: Adjusted formatting. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2A9NHJh
