"Motivation/proof that tier 1 cpm is equal to level 20 cpm"


#PokemonGO: This is a follow up on my previous post about the 0.9996 multiplier.This post will show motivation that the tier 1 cpm value is equal to the level 20 cpm value (0.59740001).Here is some background information on cpm. I used a modified version of the damage breakpoint sheet of /u/vlfph were I checked if a damage breakpoint would change if I changed the cpm of the defending Pokémon. (I advise to make a copy and follow along while reading this post)I tried to define an upper and lower bound for the tier 1 cpm value.I can’t really be bothered by going through the whole method that I used to find the match-ups, could do if there really is a need for it.First case (video):Dragonite with Dragon Tail, Level 28.5 15 ATK IV versus Ivysaur tier 1 boss.In the video, Ivysaur goes down in 34 attacks. According to damage calculations Dragonite should be dealing 18 damage each hit: 18 * 34 = 612 damage.If Dragonite was dealing 17 damage each hit it would need 36 attacks to take Ivysaur down and if Dragonite was dealing 19 damage each hit is would need only 32 attacks. So, Dragonite was dealing 18 damage, which is consistent with damage calculations.By changing the raid boss cpm in the sheet, we can find out between what cpms Dragonite would deal this 18 damage. Above 0.632299 Dragonite starts dealing 17 damage. Below 0.597172 Dragonite starts dealing 19 damage.So the cpm value has to be between 0.597172 and 0.632299, which fits both the usually used cpm of 0.6, but also the level 20 cpm.(Lower cpm value results in lower raid boss defense stat, which results in more damage dealt)Second case (video):Snorlax with Zen Headbutt, Level 32 15 ATK IV versus Wartortle tier 1 boss.In the video, Wartortle goes down in 60 attacks. According to damage calculations Snorlax should be dealing 9 damage each hit: 9 * 60 = 540 damage. If Snorlax was dealing 10 damage each hit it would need 60 attacks to take Ivysaur down. So, Snorlax was dealing 10 damage, which is not consistent with damage calculations.By changing the raid boss cpm in the sheet, we can find out between what cpms Snorlax would deal this 10 damage. Above 0.597948 Snorlax starts dealing 9 damage. Below 0.538154 Snorlax starts dealing 11 damage.So the cpm value has to be between 0.538154 and 0.597948, which does not fit the usually used cpm of 0.6, but does fit the level 20 cpm.And from above, the cpm value has to be between 0.597172 and 0.632299. Here is a visualization of these cpm rangesIn this you can see that cpm value used for tier 1 raid bosses has to be between0.597172 and0.597948.This is a very narrow range that does contain the level 20 cpm value of 0.5974, but not the previously used cpm value of 0.6. For all raid cpms, rounded values were commonly used:0.6 0.67 0.73 0.79 However as seen above, the cpm for tier 1 raids has to be above 0.597172 and below 0.597948. So the value cannot be a value rounded to 2 or 3 decimals. (0.598 is too high, 0.597 is too low) Due to this, the cpm is probably the exact same as the level 20 cpm. Assuming no funny business, the same should hold for the cpms of other tier raid bosses.The difference between the level 25 cpm and 0.67 and the level 40 cpm and 0.79 are small and hard to test.However, the difference between the level 30 cpm (0.7317) and 0.73 is large enough to test.Since this post, 0.73 has been applied mostly for tier 3 raids.It would be interesting to find out what the actual cpm is that is used in damage calculations.To be able to investigate the cpm of tier 3 bosses I first wanted to find out if 5/7 or 0.714 is used for ‘not very effective’ type match-ups.Case (video):Tyranitar with Iron Tail, Level 23.5 11 ATK IV versus Magikarp tier 1 boss.In the video, Magikarp goes down in 47 attacks. According to damage calculations, Tyranitar should be dealing 13 damage each hit: 13 * 47 = 611 damage. This is with a multiplier of 0.714.If the type effectiveness multiplier was 5/7, Tyranitar would deal 14 damage each hit. In that case it would have taken 600 / 14 = 43 attacks to take down Magikarp. So, Tyranitar was dealing 10 damage, which is consistent with damage calculations, assuming a multiplier of 0.714.By changing the type effectiveness multiplier in the sheet, we can find out between what multipliers Tyranitar would deal this 13 damage. Above 0.714065 Tyranitar starts dealing 14 damage. Below 0.659137 Tyranitar starts dealing 12 damage.So type effectiveness multiplier has to be below 0.714065, which does not fit 5/7, but does fit 0.714. Hopefully coming soon:More research that confirms whether the cpm value used in tier 3 raids is 0.73 or the level 30 cpm. Tl;dr:Tier 1 raid boss cpm = level 20 cpm = 0.5974(0001).The type effectiveness bonus for not very effective damage is 0.714 and not 5/7.When an attack is super effective against one type and not very effective against the other type of the Pokémon, you’d expect these multipliers to cancel out to 1.
