"Why a generalist provides value"

#PokemonGO: In conversations about generalists (especially the hot topic Mewtwo), a lot of people seem to think that maxing a top tier generalist is a waste of resources that could be better spent on optimal counters for the specific raid boss in question.Something I've found relevant is that when simulating level 40 attackers against most raid bosses on pokebattler, generalists like M2 and Dragonite tend to see the top 10 list for a majority of matchups. Without type advantage they tend to not hit top 5, but they are always present.I was just recently using the pokebox feature on pokebattler to see what my best options are for my Kyrogue team. As expected, my Zapdos and Raikou filled the first 7 slots. However, what I've learned with Groudon is that having a backup team when low-manning is very important. With multi-tap being removed, using max revives isn't as feasible as it once was. What was interesting is that slots 8-10 were almost always taken by my maxed Dragonite and maxed Mewtwo, with my level 30+ Exeggutor trailing behind.I know this is only one anecdotal example, but I think it is a demonstration of the value of a generalist. When maxed out, they can be seen as a substitute for a sub-35 suboptimal counter for a wide variety of raid bosses. With stardust being so limited, knowing that this single investment could be used as the top of the B team for many matchups can be more frugal then investing in the best counter that could just collect dust once that raid boss phases phases out.TL;DR maxing a generalist can be a more versatile spending of stardust than a handful of level 30 optimal counters that could be obsoleted or not needed in the short term via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2CyuJNz
