"Why is Gyarados such a popular gym defender?"

#PokemonGO: This is something I’ve never gotten. Why is Gyarados so common in gyms? Yeah, he’s an amazing attacker but, as a defender, I feel he leaves a lot to be desired. That double weakness to Electric is devastating. I have Raikou and even high CP Gyarados are a breeze to take down. Even if you don’t have Raikou, everyone who plays this game on a regular basis has a good Jolteon which gets the job done without much trouble, too. Even with his new fast move of Waterfall, I think Vaporeon is much more worthwhile as a defender. It takes a lot longer to take down a Vaporeon than it does for Gyarados. The only downside is Water Gun, but I’d much rather take a bulkier defender without such a detrimental weakness over a stronger move.
