"Blast Burn Charizard could beat out Moltres in DPS if it's as good as Frenzy Plant"

#PokemonGO: Link to chartFollowing the hype of the currently unvalidated rumor that our next Community Day Pokemon is Charmander, I decided to check out what Blast Burn Charizard could look like.MethodologyGoBattleSim is super nice for this kind of predictive content since u/biowpn added an open “add/edit move/pokemon” feature. Any personal changes you make to GBS on your account also carry over to biowpn’s unreleased comprehensive DPS spreadsheet (as so long as you’re logged in etc, it doesn’t manipulate the true sheet). If you’re unfamiliar with comprehensive dps, it’s like simple cycle DPS or “weave” DPS but also factors in energy gains from damage, edge cut off damage from fainting, and energy waste from overkill. The “true” results are presented as a range, but biowpn has found a way to give a meaningful average output.Using these resources, I used the “add/edit” feature to add in a fantasy Blast Burn attack that is identical to Frenzy Plant in every way but typing. Once again, this is a fantasy move and the true Blast Burn could look much different. Either way, these results should make players a bit cautious towards overinvesting in Moltres or Entei given that a Blast Burn Charizard could reasonably get on their level.ResultsPokemonDPSTDOCharizard BB16.46373Moltres OH16.21436.6Flareon OH15.56342.8Blaziken OH15.49293.5Entei OH15.48502.8Charizard OH14.42326.8ConclusionsIf Blast Burn is identical to/better than Frenzy Plant then Charizard surpasses all other Fire-type Pokemon in comprehensive DPS. However, Moltres and Entei are still very competitive. Moltres has basically the same DPS as Blast Burn Charizard and much more TDO (total damage output). As always, Entei is the TDO king and has the added benefit of being a pure Fire-type, liberated of Flying-type’s weaknesses (while also missing out on those resistances, the benefit lies more in that it's unique to Entei). If you’ve already powered up a Moltres/Entei (or 6 Moltres and Entei) I wouldn’t worry about your investments being squandard. They’re both overall better Pokemon. However, if you have limited stardust/rare candy, then you may want to hold off on powering up either (despite how many Moltres Niantic is force feeding us). If you are on the fence about powering up either one in the face of Blast Burn’s threat, I’d lean closer to Entei more now than before. Entei stands out from the Fire/Flying-type Pokemon as a pure Fire-type with a higher TDO, and has the potential to upgrade with a future addition of Sacred Fire (however I’m half convinced signature move legendaries won’t be TM-able).ClosingI’d like to point out again that Charmander isn’t confirmed to be our next community day Pokemon. These are not Blast Burn’s true stats but predictive ones based off of cloning Frenzy Plant. While this is all speculation, it does give caution to powering up either Moltres or Entei given the threat Blast Burn reasonably presents. If you’re curious about Biowpn’s spreadsheet, it currently isn’t available to the public. Afaik it’s still in development and will be released once Biowpn is satisfied with it. I only have access to it because we’re both on the GamePress team and collaborate together often. I will say it is a pretty swag spreadsheet and is super user friendly. Its functionality with GoBattleSim just makes it that much cooler. I expect hella rad content coming from those who use it in the future. For example, I have a pretty sweet Mega Ampharos analysis coming up soon in the wake of our last community day that I’d be incapable of doing without GBS and Biowpn’s help. Kudos to u/biowpn and u/doublefelix for their work!!BonusFor fun I just threw Heatran (Gen 4 Legend) in the mix with Fire Spin and Overheat. The DPS is lower than Moltres's but it has some wicked TDO. Considering Steel-type only enhances its res to Fire-type's targets (Ice, Grass, Fairy, Bug) Heatran will probably be the Dad once it enters the game.DPS 16.18 TDO 504.5Considering Magmortar's (Gen 4) attack stat is slightly lower than Heatran's, it'd perform roughly around this level in DPS with the same set. So less than Moltres, but without the wicked sweet TDO and resistances. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2vjhPmt
