"[Idea] Layout For A New Battle System"


#PokemonGO: I've been working on this layout for a battle system that would keep every aspect of the current one while adding some strategy without overwhelming the older and younger playerbase.The idea is that Fast Moves and Charge Moves are kept exactly as they are (with the exception that Fast Moves gets its own button). But on top of those moves each Pokemon gets a Special Move once powered up to level 22 and another one when powered up to level 27. These moves would be predetermined for each species of Pokemon and there would be no "Special TM". This way, when you learn to play one Vileplume, you know how to play all Vileplume.These Special Moves would be cooldown based, meaning when used you would have to wait a set amount of seconds before you could use the move again.The 4th move (or second Special Move) will always be some kind of non-damage move. Either enhancing your own Pokémons defensive or offensive stats, or otherwise strategically pair with its other abilities for a few seconds.The 3rd move (or first Special Move) can be anything from something that apply status effects like Poison, lowering the opposing Pokémons stats, self healing or a pure damage move.This dynamic would encourage dedicated players to read up on the moves on Pokémon they use often to know how to strategically combo their moves. While more casual players can still get some use out of just using a move whenever it is off cooldown.I feel that giving Fast Move its own button is an important part, as the no-look approach we have to battle right now with just spamming the grayed out ChargeMove-button is not the most rewarding game design. And if the cooldown graphic was added to the Fast Move also, this would give us some visual feedback as to how fast we would need to tap our Fast Move as well as some indication of when the attack is over so that we can dodge. And speaking of dodging, giving Fast Move its own button would free the rest of the screen up to be exclusively used for dodging.
