"WARNING: Your "future proof" Legendaries will power creep themselves"

#PokemonGO: An initial concern I had with Community Day moves was how they can only be obtained on Community Day and what that may mean for the signature moves of Legendary Pokemon in the future. Thunder Shock Zapdos has basically confirmed my fears: "3 hours to get your Origin Pulse Kyogre, btw it might be shiny."As it stands, many trainers are comfortable dumping their Stardust into presumably "Future Proof" Pokemon such as Rayquaza, Groudon, Kyogre, and Mewtwo. However, I feel we should be more cautious. Given that we still have yet to see their signature moves I'm positive that when we get them, like Zapdos's Thundershock, they won't be TM-able.Maxing our Rays sounds like a great investment, until Dragon Ascent trivializes it. We already have numbers on Origin Pulse and Precipice Blades and they blow Hydro Pump and Earthquake out of the water. Psystrike is low key laughable right now, but last minute GM changes is something Niantic is an expert at.I want to clarify that if you're going to use these Pokemon in the immediate future, power up away. Just be cautious with your resources if you plan on maxing several just for the sake of it.It's not that bad, just be mindfulEven if the signature move Legendaries will blow their current forms out of the water, it's not that bad. For example, Dragonite is a stellar alternative to Rayquaza to the extent that you may as well not power any Rays up. A Dragon Ascent Ray would essentially parallel this relationship with our current Rayquaza.Additionally, Mewtwo is a great "Fighting" and "Ghost-type" Pokemon with Focus Blast and Shadow Ball. While an updated and upgraded Psystrike would be bomb for its Psychic-type set, it will still maintain its other assets. Similar with Solar Beam Groudon, Outrage Ray, and Thunder Kyogre.Don't forget that none of these moves exist yet and there is no time-line for when they will. For the next 2 weeks, 2 months, or 2 years we may never even get a hint at Origin Pulse Kyogre dropping let alone Dragon Ascent Ray. Until they do drop you'll be sure to get plenty of use out of your Pokemon, and as stated before, they will still be great at what they do, just slightly worse than their improved selves.ClosingI'm not suggesting to hold off on powering up your Legendaries period; just be cautious with your spending. They can and will power creep themselves. Given the nature of this game, they could be power creeped on by other Pokemon despite future projections (in all fairness, many will). A GM change could drop and change everything. What I am suggesting is to power up Pokemon you're going to use now and in the immediate future. Regice, Regirock, and Registeel is our current raid cycle. Zapdos and Moltres will be sprinkled in. Mewtwo EX raids are still hanging around. Power up Pokemon that cream them. Or just stick with what you have if you have no trouble clearing raids as is. Saving stardust is always a good idea.Final PointThis type of Power Creep in gacha games is standard. For example, in Fire Emblem Heroes Hector is power creeped by L.A. Hector which is literally the same unit but with better stats and abilities. Just recently, FEH got Legendary Hector, which is not only the same unit with better stats and abilities, but also has an exclusive elemental bonus. FEH players don't really care since all Hectors are great units (if anything they're mad about their garbage tier waifus that aren't from Awakening or Fates not getting a unit yet while we have like 30 different Robins).Unlike FEH, Pokemon GO is a collaborative game, not a competitive one and has a way less aggressive gacha and event system. I feel the GO community could really learn from r/FireEmblemHeroes. Play with your favorite units, meme it up, and have a good time! via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2ugytAb
