"The Top 15 Quick and Charge Moves in PoGo, and a quantitative look at moveset inconsistency"
#PokemonGO: You can find the full spreadshet that includes all moves, as well as DPS tables for all types, as well as the associated calculations at this link.I'm making this post because I've been underwhelmed at the process by which most people determine how good moves really are in PoGo. There have been a lot of different approaches, but most focus on a small subset of cases and don't discuss moves in a general sense, so this is my attempt. I started this by doing a simple DPS calculation on individual quick and charge moves over 100 total energy gain for those two specific moves. I calculated damage and time per cycle, and came up with some numbers but quickly realized what I was doing was for the most optimistic case. I refer to this case as max DPS. In most cases, especially with single charge bar moves, you'll end up wasting a lot of energy after using the move because of how long they take to get. I decided to try to integrate this unreliability into DPS calculations by using a second DPS that assumes you get KOed immediately after charging another of that charge move. I refer to this as minimum DPS of a moveset, as it's a worst case scenario. The average DPS of a moveset is just the average of these two, and the difference of the two is the variance (the inconsistency) of that moveset. As you might guess, single bar moves have much higher variance. This can be seen clearly in the draco meteor vs outrage debate.Maximum DPS (Dragon)DragonTwisterDragon PulseDragon ClawOutrageDraco MeteorHidden Power Dragon12.7016.1016.3517.7618.09Dragon Breath13.6416.7517.0518.2318.63Dragon Tail14.5817.6518.0319.0519.64Minimum DPS (Dragon)DragonTwisterDragon PulseDragon ClawOutrageDraco MeteorHidden Power Dragon12.1814.5614.9315.8414.63Dragon Breath13.3515.5716.0216.7215.73Dragon Tail14.4216.6717.1817.7517.00Variance (Dragon)DragonTwisterDragon PulseDragon ClawOutrageDraco MeteorHidden Power Dragon4.18%10.05%9.08%11.43%21.15%Dragon Breath2.15%7.30%6.23%8.64%16.88%Dragon Tail1.10%5.71%4.83%7.07%14.41%After making all of these for each type, I decided to make a large table so that I could talk about moves in a general sense. The table calculates average DPS for all movesets, and then averages each moves performance across all combinations involving that move. And... that's it. These are the top 15 currently released quick and charge moves in a general sense. Because I don't use the entire damage formula, the actually numbers don't mean anything except in relation to each-other. The entire chart is in the spreadsheet. A lot of these aren't surprising, and personally I don't feel like going over everything so feel free to comment your own observations, like how ground moves suck.Top 15 Quick and Charge MovesFast MoveAverage True DPSCharge MoveAverage True DPSCounter17.126Hydro Cannon18.781Dragon Tail17.053Frenzy Plant18.410Steel Wing17.048Blast Burn18.098Fire Spin16.878Shadow Ball17.610Rock Throw16.756Sky Attack17.342Shadow Claw16.742Power Whip17.285Confusion16.623Grass Knot17.285Iron Tail16.503Wild Charge17.285Poison Jab16.460Leaf Blade17.260Smack Down16.384Dynamic Punch17.090Waterfall16.384Avalanche17.090Pound16.363Outrage17.027Vine Whip16.363Solar Beam16.995Fire Fang16.316Overheat16.755Razor Leaf16.233Sludge Bomb16.729A few more things about how this is calculated and what assumptions are used:-This does not use the entire damage calculation, and instead only uses raw move data (nothing is divided by 2, modified via modifiers, or has 1 base damage added)-This is not as accurate as actual simulations of actual battles for several reasons-Maximum and minimum DPS are taken at or after 100 energy gain, but before 200 energy gain. I did this because running it out forever is MUCH more complicated in some cases, and IMO is a reasonable assumption for what happens in most battles. This only leads to minor inaccuracies. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2wd2G49
