"Is increasing storage space a difficult task to perform for Niantic?"

#PokemonGO: Let me preface by saying that I'm sitting around 1400 and not that stressed about it, but that I see a lot of people are. I am wondering if because increasing storage will also increase the amount of data that needs to be stored significantly more than say increasing bag space that maybe this isn't a case of Niantic simply forgetting or being aloof, but rather a technical issue?
