"Shiny chance and location - No Shiny Zone - 10 month summary"

#PokemonGO: Before I say anything else - to those who will just shout RNG - please read the article in full. Thank you :)There has been a lot of shiny research done, but location has not been included in any I have seen, and I believe it is vital to accurate data. So, a bit of background for those who haven't followed these from the start :I am a level 38 Island player who usually plays on Community Days in the same area. A 7 stop 2 gym roughly 1.5k circuit along a shore and through a park giving pretty good diversity and loads of spawn points. All days have been played with all 7 stops lured and Incense running the whole time (where game/network errors have allowed) and starting with Great/Ultraballs.I first became aware something may be odd after the first two Community Days. Reading here and elsewhere about the high shiny rates while we had seen none seemed odd. So, starting in March with Bulbasaur Day, I started keeping better records.I played most days with my daughter, so two accounts, and both have caught shinies elsewhere.January - Pikachu - 237 Caught between us - No ShiniesFebruary - Dratini - 201 Caught between us - No ShiniesMarch - Bulbasaur - 212 caught - 239 seen - No shinies (Daughter went elsewhere and caught 6 shinies)April - Mareep - 89 caught - 89 seen - No shinies (Spawns severely affected by Gen 1 event)May - Charmander - 230 caught 230 seen - No shinies (Delayed start - no Charmander spawning untill 11:15)June - Larvitar - 187 Caught - 234 seen - No ShiniesJuly - See belowAugust - Eevee - 112 Caught - 164 seen - No ShiniesSeptember - See BelowOctober - Beldum - 263 Caught - 284 seen - No Shinies (3 trainers)Thats a total of 1678 community day encounters without a single shiny sighting. In July and September I was on holiday. I wasn't playing the same way obviously, but just by having the game open as I wandered around I caught 7 shiny Squirtles (2 fom tasks) and 9 shiny Chickoritas. I have also caught a shiny Shinx from a raid in the area.Over all this time I have yet to encounter another player who has caught a shiny in this area, and when I tell people what I'm doing on community days, they tend to move on, understandably so!I can't find the post now, but someone here said that in the main games shiny chance was calculated by a combination of RNG, player ID and spawn ID.If this is the case it makes perfect sense that some spawn points, even on community days, simply never spawn shinies. Conversely, I personally have caught 2 shinies, and my daughter one, from the same spawn point. I urge trainers to make notes of where they spot shinies to see if we can assemble some data on this aspect as well.tl:dr - 1678 CD encounters, no shinies seen in area. Trainers have caught shinies at normal rates when elsewhere. Data supports theory that not all spawn points can spawn shinies. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2CZe6h0
