"My city is now 100% all in on Pokemon Go!"
#PokemonGO: This weekend while walking with my normal raid group for Gengar Raid day I got stopped by a lady in a car. I assumed this was the normal "so why are you all walking around in large groups/are you protesting something" questions that we seem to always get during community day/raid days/days that end in "y"...I usually quickly say "pokemon go...yes it's still a thing, 'K C Ya, Bye...."It turned out that this lady lives on our main downtown drag and is part of the business development community downtown...and they LOVE POKEMON GO PLAYERS.Like "love love" us. She has been looking around for someone to contact for awhile to find out "how the city and business community can help promote your events." She says she loves seeing large groups of folks downtown. She put me in contact with the person at city hall in charge of community art and community events. We were able to get our next Community Day on the city calendar/website. We also now have a local downtown business offering fire themed drink and food specials (booze and non booze related) during and after Community Day.The fine folks in our city are also going to work with the Business Development District to inform local (mostly SMALL) business owners of when Community Day/Raid Day events are in advance so they can have extra staff, make sure businesses are open (many businesses are not open on Sunday afternoons-who knows why!), and encourage them to have specials for players to encourage people to stay and shop downtown after the event ends.I also let the contact in city hall know that WE LOVE COMMUNITY ART & playgrounds! I also play Ingress and explained that we can create MORE reasons for people to come downtown the more ART they can install. We recently got a new mural downtown and a very large statue-both were submitted as portals in Ingress the same day (obviously at the rate of submits its going to take 6+months to get an answer one way or the other but still)...She said that this information will really help as they look for businesses and donors to contribute funds for community art and improvements. It has been a great week to know that our downtown area and our city as a whole LOVES the concept of walking around and exploring the community.EDIT-Come visit Waukesha, WI if you want to enjoy the pokemongo lovin' downtown! via /r/pokemongo https://ift.tt/2DrWqe3
