"There should be much better rewards for taking down a gym. It currently feels very futile to bother taking them down as an Instinct player."
#PokemonGO: Taking down a gym is somewhat time consuming. Even being level 34 with a team of machamps and other counters, it still takes me about 5-15 minutes. And I'm totally cool with that. I like that it takes that long I just wish there was more of a reward.I like being instinct because more gyms are up for grabs. I feel like I have a better opportunity because more often than not, if I ever see a mystic or valor gym, it's filled up. So there would be no room for me if I was either of those teams. So I effectively have double the gyms that I'm able to take down than a mystic or valor player. Most instinct gyms don't fill up so fast. But that's kind of the problem.More often than not, I spend a lot of time tapping away to take down a gym. However, I always get kicked out in an hour or less. Sometimes in minutes. All my hard work was rendered useless because what I've effectively done is made a gym that's even easier for someone else to now bother with taking down than before I started attacking it.I really feel like there should be bigger rewards for taking down gyms. As far as I can tell, the only reward is a little bit of gym xp which really sucks.I think there's two ways they can help players, especially Instinct players. Either:1. Make gyms easier to hold (A few ideas:)Pokemon get harder to defeat the less there are in the gym. Maybe not too crazy where a solo gym is as difficult as a 6 Pokemon gym. But maybe for only 1 Pokemon, they're 3x as powerful. 2 Pokemon, 2x as powerful. And 3-6 Pokemon are the same level as they are now.Allow 1 or 2 legendaries per gym which the first person can obviously grab. When a gym is defeated there's a ~30 min grace period before it can be battled again (I personally don't care for this idea, though, a better alternative is a guaranteed 3-5 coins from the start).2. Give us a better reward for winning gym battles or defeating a gym entirely (A few ideas:)Defeating a gym gives some sort of Raid-like rewards based on how difficult it was. Giving you some coins right of the bat, berries, balls, stardust, etc., alongside the 1 coin every 10 minutes.Winning a battle with a Pokemon gives you 1 candy for that 'mon, either guaranteed or just a chance. That way we can also actually feel like we have the ability to "train" Pokemon rather than just walking them.EDIT: One of your parties becomes a battle party. Each pokemon in that party has an EXP bar that scales similarly to buddy walking distance (legendaries have 20,000 EXP to a candy, commons 1,000-5,000). Battling increases that EXP based on the defeated Pokemon's CP or based just on damage done. When that EXP bar goes to full, you get a candy. I know Niantic doesn't like keeping track of too much data, so when you remove a Pokemon from that party, their bar goes back to zero. However, maybe it could work with defenders as well, so if your defender wins the battle or based on how much damage it's done, it could earn you a candy. This would probably break down the current state that only 5% of Pokemon are being used. Not to mention giving better rewards for knocking out a gym will probably encourage more people to pick minority teams which would even out the playing field more. There's essentially no incentives to being the minority team in an area which I think is a big problem.Just a few ideas. Currently I don't even bother trying to take gyms most of the time unless it's really weak and will take 1 round of battles. It's too much effort for so little reward. I'd rather spend a dollar for 100 coins than 15 minutes of my time for maybe 3-10 coins on average. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2JKKF30
