"Today I experienced the best and worst of the community"

#PokemonGO: TLDR: at a raid, a player complains about my daughter's choice of suboptimal pokemon. An awesome woman steps in, sticks up for my daughter and then trades her a shiny ponyta.I know stories like mine have been posted, but this is the first time I've ever had encounters with the good and bad people who play pogo. Sorry for the long text, but I felt the need to rant and praise. Now my family is large so we usually keep to ourselves in raids, etc. We can defeat legendaries without help so we typically don't coordinate. Today we all had a ex-raid pass (Hurray!), but due to my wife's work, we couldn't start until 30 mins in. No worries, we can easily beat Deoxys with our accounts. I'm semi-hardcore but my wife and kids just play casually now, mostly just community days and raids to get new Pokemon along with occasional walks when I drag them out.Now my youngest daughter loves Pokemon, her favorites are:BulbasaurBig bulbasaur (venosaur)pink dratini (she got super pissed at me when I evolved one of her pink dratinis to puke dragonite - though she likes normal dragonite)ponyta - she's been trying to get a shiny, heck I've been trying to get a shiny to trade to her but no luck so far.So when we raid, she'll ask "Can I change pokemon?" When we know we can easily defeat the boss, I saw sure and she'll switch to her favorites. Otherwise I tell her well you need to bring big pokemon and then she'll typically pick mewtwo, dragonite and big bulbasaur. Going to this raid she asks can she switch pokemon and I say yes, no problemIt's probably obvious where the bad part is going, we get to the ex-raid gym late (about 20 mins in) and there are two stragglers who I guess missed hatch. They look super relieved as we walk up and ask if they can join us. I say no problem but we're waiting for my wife. So we wait about 5 minutes and start the raid when my wife gets there. One guy starts flipping out "What! a bulbasaur?!?", and then "What idiot brought a ponyta?". I was taken aback, I know I've seen stories about people complaining but it's a little girl for crying out loud and it's not like there's anyway we're not beating this. I told him to calm down, we'll easily win, but he looks at me and is about to spew more verbal diarrhea when an older woman just goes off on him.It was awesome, about "how dare he insult a little girl, especially since without us, he's not winning the raid", "how it's a ** game", "how he should be super ashamed at himself and she hopes he doesn't catch his deoxys". She doesn't let him get another word in and tells him to leave us alone to catch which thankfully he does. She then interacts with my daughter who luckily was pretty oblivious to the ruckus and asks did she catch deoxys (Yes on 2nd last ball) and then amazingly offers to trade her a shiny ponyta (she had more than 1). My daughter is ecstatic.. So thank you so much, You made her month and mine. I got to experience the worst kind of player and the best in one raid via /r/pokemongo https://ift.tt/2SN6mTY
