"PvP is what you make of it"

#PokemonGO: I feel there’s some “need” to explain this, but as a reminder that with the release of PvP, trainers are only able to battle in person or with UF/BF. While I suspect many folks will host tournaments in their communities, it’s also very likely those will have its own rules. To balance the main series, Smogon released tiers based on each Pokémon’s usage, and even have some banned from any tier unless folks agree to it.I’ve seen threads about how Blissey, Mewtwo, and whatever will dominate the leagues, adding concerns about PvPers. Well, make an agreement with your opponent not to use those.Since most of PvP will be done in person, or remotely with someone you likely have open communication with such as discord/txting/whatever, you can set your ground rules as to what not to use.Or you could not. Really depends. For tournaments, I fully suspect there will be some tiered system made by silph or Smogon or someone that a majority of the community will likely agree upon. The folks not interested in the PvP scene to research that are likely not going to invest Pokémon strictly for PVP as it is, and assumptions likely point to them being “easier opponents”.Anyways, point I’m trying to make is that PVP is what you make of it. There’s no matchmaking lobby. There’s no online tournament where you have no idea who the opponent is. There’s no waiting in a lobby for folks to join via the internet. It’s simply walk up to another player, ask them for a battle, or txt your friend and see if they’re interested.Because of that, I highly suggest you be cautious of what you’re investing in. The reality is that if you keep defeating your friend or other trainers with the same team, they’re likely going to be less motivated to continue battling with you. They are going to realize what mons they can’t win against, and will ask for ground rules or ask that you use something else or they’ll walk away. No one with the motivation to win wants to keep getting their butt handed to them by a more skilled player using their best Pokémon. Before you seriously start investing in certain mons, I recommend waiting until a community led tier system comes out like Smogon that is widely accepted in the Pokémon GO community as a whole. If there are public tournament events, I highly suspect that there will be more rules than just the 3 leagues with CP caps. So if you invest in a Mewtwo because it’s going to be fairly broken, you may be limited in actually using that if you wish to be really competitive.tl;drdon’t worry about opponents using “cheese” Pokémon. You’re going to battle your friends or in person. Set your own ground rules to make the game interesting.I’m sure someone will make a tier system that gets accepted widely by the Pokémon community like Smogon (might even be them)Tournaments are likely to have their own ground rules, so don’t rely on the same Pokémon you already know is going to be brokenhold off on seriously investing in Pokémon you plan on using strictly for PvP unless you really want to. See what tier they land in.have fun. PvP is what you make of it. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2EnFSV3
