"[Unpopular] A New Year’s Resolution for /r/PokemonGo: Be happy with what you have"

#PokemonGO: I’ve rarely visited this subreddit in the past couple months, because I’ve grown tired with the mentality many people have on here, and the community at large. It’s the season of giving and new beginnings, so I feel like this a very relevant issue to talk about here. People seem to be so focused on what they don’t have, rather than what they do have.Theres so many posts complaining about a pokemon being difficult or hard to obtain. However, nobody really asks themselves “Do I absolutely need this?” Instead, people invest so much time and effort towards getting these pokemon. For the most part, once they get it, it eventually ends up collecting dust in their storage, remaining untouched for the most part. One good example of this is the Farfetch’d / Kangaskhan Global Challenge reward. Everybody was so hyped to get these pokemon, but when it came and passed, people just left them to rot in storage. I rarely saw people put farfetch’d in a gym, or walk it as a buddy. Same with me, I caught tons of Farfetch’d, but I haven’t touched them at all for months.I know most people are going to say “But I need to complete the pokedex!” as their reason for pursuing all the pokemon. However, everybody who is trying to complete the WHOLE pokedex is just fighting an upward battle. Theres over 700 pokemon in existance, and there is almost 400 in GO right now. As more pokemon get added, the spawn pool is going to be diluted further and further, and its going to become harder to conplete it.Am I saying to not complete the pokedex? No. I just want people to calm down and happy with what they have. People take this game way too seriously, and get so consumed with collecting that it becomes toxic.Look at the front page, theres multiple complaint posts about the hatch rates. Sure, niantic has set the rates low to sell more incubators (And to be fair, pokemon go is a free game, so I don’t get why people are always suprised when this kind of stuff happens), but inevitably the eggs pools will become more diluted. Plus, most people just want these pokemon for the pokedex, and would just let them sit in storage forever. Along with that, there’s absolutely little reason to stress or complain about not getting a Munchlax when you have an army of mewtwos, TTars, and Dragonites, and other pokemon that are nearly as rare. However, people are so consumed by looking what they don’t have, that they forget about everything they do have, such as the absolute stacks of Farfetch’d I mentioned before.Probably the worst example of this is with niantic’s events (Go fest, Safari Zones, Dortmund, Japan, ect). Every time one of these events comes up, this subreddit cries about how unfair it is, even though most of you wouldn’t be complaining if an event was in your area (and to be fair, it would be nice to see new locations get new events). It is, by far, the most toxic thing about this community. With every location-based event, the same comments comes up ”I hope [event] fails, so Niantic gives everybody [pokemon]!” Come on guys, this is incredibly shallow. These events draw so many families & people, who invest lots time and money to attend, and its just vile to see people wishing for their day to be ruined, all because they want a pokemon. This was even worse for GO fest 2017, before “apology events,” started. People genuinely wanted go fest to fail, just so NOBODY got the first legendary. It was literally the cliché “If I can’t have it, nobody can.” Being at the event in person, and seeing first hand the many frustrated and disappointed people, it was truely sad to go on this subreddit, and see people cheering and happy that go fest failed. Its pathetic that some people have grown that toxic over a simple mobile game. Its even more disappointing to see that these incredibly possessive attitudes still persist, even till today.TLDR:Pokemon Go is a game, so treat it like that. Be happy with the pokemon you have, and don’t really focus on what you don’t have, or what others are getting. You can complete the pokedex, but don’t get toxic about it. If you don’t, you’ll just be consistantly frustrated and envious as more pokemon are added and more events are held. via /r/pokemongo http://bit.ly/2ReyK3z
