"Psyduck spawn density wasn't actually low, it was just mishandled - My findings"

#PokemonGO: Most people can agree this worldwide safari zone event was a big flop. The two major complaints are thatThe shiny rate seems to have been nerfed compared to other safari zone eventsSpawn density was terrible for the worldwide crowdI won't speak to the shiny rate, but I can speak to the spawn density problem (at least in the USA).Saturday morning it was reported that additional spawn points have been turned on for Psyduck's shiny debut worldwide. Rather than having increased spawns everywhere, Niantic seemed to use these additional spawn points almost exclusively for Psyduck. My wife and I, one friend from a different state in the midwest, and a friend+her sister from the south all set out at around the same time on Saturday. We all had the same initial plan, and talked throughout the day trying to figure out what to do.~2 hours driving from between 5 different parks searching for Psyducks. My wife and I found 4 total Psyduck and these were all en route to a park. Zero ducks found within any parks.Through our local discord we were informed that they weren't spawning at parks or nests for some reason, but they were spawning at high pokestop dense places that weren't eligible for nests - ie not parks. Namely the university and mall.~2.5 hours at the university and mall yielded about 40-50 encounters. Much better than the park, but the Psyduck:Hoenn Pokemon ratio was still very low for an "event."Went home that day very demoralized. Nobody in my friend group had found a single shiny and we only had about 200-250 encounters between the five of us.Sunday morning, my other midwestern friend said he was having very good luck by driving from parking lot to parking lot. Parking lots are usually low density spawns for their overall area on the map, and almost always lack Pokestops.A lot of these additional spawns seemed to be added in places without stops. Maybe they're there to make up for rural players during community day when they cannot place down lures?Sure enough the parking lots were rich with Psyduck. There's a movie theater a few blocks from our house. The parking lot will have 4-6 Pokemon on a typical day.One drive through the movie theater parking lot yielded 6 Psyducks and 14 overall Pokemon. We continued with this for about 4 hours driving from parking lot to parking lot of things like grocery stores, Walmart, Target, etc. Every single parking lot yielded us between 3-10 Psyducks differing based on the size.~4 hours of driving from parking lot to parking lot yielded us about 200 Psyducks. I personally got one shiny and my wife got two.A rather curious case - there was one parking lot next to a small park. This was the only lot that gave us no Psyducks at all.TL;DR:Psyduck spawns didn't seem to be "turned up" (or "turned on") for normal spawn points, only the spawn points added for this event. If you went to a place you usually play, odds are you didn't find many Psyduck. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/2HAfDNQ
