"Shiny Feebas poll results"
#PokemonGO: I conducted a survey trying to find out what was Feebas' shiny rate for the 1/19 event. I gathered almost 3500 submissions and I'm going to present the resulting data.First of all, the raw speadsheet can be found here. Use it as your leisure.Second, a word about "impossible" submissions. The following results were obtained by removing entries that were clearly false (as in 11+ shinies in 1-10 quests) and a small subset of EMEA entries that were submitted between 4:49AM and 4:53AM (GMT+1), most likely by a troll in retaliation to a thread I made where I suggested that the shiny rate was doubled in the Americas. I haven't touched any other submission, even the more extreme ones (0 shinies over 101+ encounters or 6-10 shinies over 1-10 encounters) because, well, who am I to doubt your words? ;)Third, my metodology. The number of Feebas encounters (i.e. wild Pokémon and task rewards) were asked as intervals in the survey, e.g. "41-50". For the purposes of data extraction, I used the intervals' average value (e.g. "41-50" -> 45), with one exception that I will explain later. The "101+" interval was replaced with the value 105. The number of shinies was left as-is, except for "11+" that was replaced with 11 and "6-10" that was replaced with 8. If a submission had "6-10" shinies and "1-10" encounters, I replaced it with 6 shinies and 6 encounters (to avoid an individual shiny rate > 1).Sorry for the wall of text, here's the data!Spreadsheet with the calculationsRegionSubmissionsTotal EncountersTotal ShiniesShiny ProbabilityShiny Rate (rounded)EMEA1327428861228~0.02861/35Americas1909494292799~0.05661/17.5APAC1905821299~0.05141/19.5Global3426981364326~0.04411/22.5RegionMedian of no. of shiniesAvg. I'm no mathematician and I'm not skilled in managing amounts of data of this size, and surely this survey is a lot biased... But to be honest, there's no way that the real shiny rate ends up being something like 1/75 as it was suggested in some threads. Thanks to whoever took part in the survey! via /r/TheSilphRoad http://bit.ly/2sH1d48
