"What's the point of holding so many gyms?"

#PokemonGO: So I work a late shift at my local college's library, and I usually work until midnight, when it closes. By the time we lock up, it's about 1:00. Being a college campus, there are a ton of gyms. So every night, I stop by one on my way out, and hold it for the night, getting my 50 coins in the morning.Now, for some reason, someone is starting to literally take every gym on campus late at night. I was like eh. They'll probably not be losing anything if I grab this gym for tonight. Nope! When I got back home, I'm koed out of there, with maybe a few coins. The kicker? IT'S THE SAME GUY. Why??? You literally have like 8 gyms, and nobody is going to be playing at 3 am! The coin cap is 50!Maybe I'm just mad, but what's the point in this?
