"Are types of Pokemon forms wrong in team leader battles?"

#PokemonGO: So, I have been battling great league spark often lately, and noticed that his castform didn't seem to count as a water type. I have conducted some tests and a 1450 CP meganium with an excellent Frenzy Plant did less damage to it than a 1300 CP Machamp with a nice Close Combat. Also, if I use alolan marowak against his plusle, he seems to take almost no damage from Discharge, as if alolan marowak was ground type. Are all forms given the wrong type?
