"AR+ pro tip from a videographer / Motion Graphic Designer"
#PokemonGO: I posted this in a comment a few weeks back but figured it’s deserving of its own post.I know that a lot of people have had issues getting their footsteps to appear while trying to place their buddy in AR+, so they turn it off entirely (assuming you’re able to, thanks niantic). And sometimes you’re in public and really don’t want to use AR+ so you switch it off, I do that too.BUT I very rarely have issues when using AR+ to get my Pokémon to place, and can usually get the footsteps to pop up in about 3-10 seconds depending on the situation. and I’m gonna clue you in to a small piece of the world of MoCap.When you look around, it’s really easy for us as humans to understand depth and perspective innately because we have two eyes. Cameras only have one, so they’re working at a disadvantage here. and on top of that, not all phones cameras are made equal, and not all phone’s computers are made equal. So you have to give your phone AS MUCH information about the spot you want to put your buddy as possible, to make that easy on your phone. The tutorials in AR games usually tell you to “look around the space” with your phone, so naturally you’re standing still, panning your phone back and forth until it works. That works for us, but not for phones with only one camera. The motion that is going to give your phone a VERY good lay of the land VERY quickly, is UP AND DOWN MOTION.point your phone directly at the spot you want to place your mon, move your camera up and down, but keep focusing on that spot. That’s gonna give your phone PERSPECTIVE without giving it new information to try and make sense of at the same time.(PS. There’s no save for dark spaces, it just won’t work, turn on the lights) via /r/pokemongo https://ift.tt/37jWzvL
