"Flying type movesets are too weak, need to be re-balanced for PvP."

#PokemonGO: Hi,My post is inspired by a recent post about Rayquaza and what can be done to improve its PvP performance. The main suggestion was to give it a different dragon attack and some coverage moves... Yet no suggestion to give the highest CP flying type Pokemon a flying attack, which is surprising, because flying is one of the strongest offensive typing in Pokemon, being super-effective against 3 types, resisted by only 3 types (Steel, Rock, Electric) and no immunity (in Pokemon GO, no "double resist"). This should make Flying types versatile attackers that can threaten neutral matchups, but this is not the case in the current implementation. In my opinion, the problems with Flying type movesets are:Their fast moves are below average. Air Slash and Peck either don't generate enough energy, or are too weak. Wing Attack is average, but is legacy. There is only one useful charged Flying attack and that is Sky Attack, which in terms of DPE, is a slightly stronger flying-equivalent Surf. Hurricane and Brave bird cost more energy (55 and 65 vs 45) and have lower DPE than Sky Attack. With Air Slash you won't generate enough energy to get to those moves anyway. Aerial Ace has the same energy cost as Sky attack, but deals less than 70% of its damage. There was a power creep for all other types. We got Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn, Frenzy Plant, Meteor Mash, Shadow Ball, etc... All have higher DPE than even the only useful Flying move, Sky Attack. Now, you could be saying, "but wait a minute, there are Flying pokemon in the meta", and you'd be right, to name a few: Skarmory and Altaria in GL, Articuno in UL, Togekiss in ML, and more. But are they actually used because of their Flying typing?Togekiss is only used because of Charm. Air Slash is never used. Ancient Power is always preferred over Aerial Ace - Not just because of the 10% boost, but also because it deals higher DPE - Even though Aerial Ace is STAB!Articuno is only used with Ice attacks, has little to do with Flying.Altaria and Skarmory were blessed with Sky Attack, but that's not the only reason. Altaria has Dragon Breath and Skarmory has the best defensive typing in the game. There are other absurd examples, for example if you pit Tornadus against Landorus (https://ift.tt/38u44zY) with two shields. Tornadus DOUBLE RESISTS Landorus' fast attack and still loses badly. Just shows you that Air Slash doesn't deal nearly enough neutral damage and doesn't generate enough energy to keep up with Mud slap.Think about it, just a few weeks ago the weak to Flying Venusaur and the resisted by Flying Swampert dominated the UL meta, where were Staraptor, Unfezant and Pidgeot? Back in the storage box because they can't counter them reliably. Staraptor and Unfezant actually have coverage moves for Steel too.To sum it up, I don't think Flying types generate energy fast enough, their charged moves are bad, and while I don't expect them to be super-strong destroyers, they should just be similar to how they're used in the original games, as sweepers that can finish off several weak opponents with deadly attacks. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2TJ0wEn
