"TheSilphRoad now has chat groups, and there's nothing we can do about it"
#PokemonGO: EDIT: This has just been rolled back. It seems that the stance of Reddit's users was heard loud and clear!Hey Travelers, a little bit of strange news today. This post is intended to inform the community about a new Reddit feature and to clarify this subreddit's stance on its inclusion. If you're using New Reddit, you will see a prompt at the top of our page that says: "Find people in r/TheSilphRoad who want to chat". What this does is place you into a small chatroom with other random users -- not just subscribers here, but users of other similar subs too. With independent, small chatrooms distributed to all users, this is not only impossible for us to moderate; we don't have any ability to moderate them at all. Reports go to Reddit admins, and mods are treated like any other user in regards to this feature.Reddit pushed this feature to all subreddits with no option for individual subs to opt-out. Many subreddits are up-in-arms or protesting. What this means for TSR is that we have public chatrooms associated with our name that we have no ability to moderate (even if we had the capability). If you are in a room with an abusive user, troll, spammer, etc., we encourage you to report them using the feature built into chat, but know that the mod team has no ability to take action there. We can, however, ban a user from our subreddit, but the nature of the chatrooms mean that we can never be certain if any provided proof is legitimate. Not a good situation for anyone. At this time, we have no plans to do a subreddit blackout as others subs have, but the mod team will be discussing how to best deal with this. Please use this post to share your thoughts on this feature and let us know if you have suggestions for us! via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/35jQHCa
