"The Orre region reimagined"
What if Orre, the (supposedly Arizona-inspired) region featured in the Gamecube spin-off games, Colosseum and Gale of Darkness, was revisited in a new game, but without some of the restrictions of a remake in the traditional sense, while instead being re-imagined from the ground up as a fully fleshed out explorable region, filled with wild Pokémon, having its own regional Pokedex? This was a question that occurred to me recently, and after giving it some thought, I tried to make a map and a Pokedex for it.For the map, I figured that the concept of an open wild area, like the one in Galar, could work well for it, so I split Orre into a bunch of sections:https://ift.tt/2ZSYfeE version already has a couple of Pokémon on it that I added after making the Pokedex, to add a bit of a feel of its fauna)For the Orre-Pokedex, I decided right away that I would not want to limit the Pokémon selection to the Pokémon that were available in the original 2 Orre-based games, because the Pokémon available in those games were primarily determined by what Pokémon were unobtainable in the actual Generation 3 games: RS+FRLG combined were missing a good chunk of Generation 2 Pokémon, hence why those were the focus of Colosseum specifically. The rest were a bit arbitrary, ocassionally picked to fit certain characters (like Mirror B's infamous Ludicolos), but were otherwise just a couple of additional Pokémon from the 3 generations that were avialable at the time. GaleOfDarkness, being released after Emerald, tried to complement the selection of it and Colosseum, by focusing on Generation 1 Pokemon, which would be the what you're missing out on the most if you didn't get a FRLG game. So, apart from some of Pokemon like the mentioned Ludicolo example, I figured this for-fun Orre-Pokedex should be a healthy and diverse mix of Pokémon from all 8 generations that otherwise completely disregards what Pokémon were available in the originals.Since the two Orre-games had you start your adventure with Espeon&Umbreon or an Eevee itself respectively, it would make perfect sense for a new Orre adventure to have you start with an Eevee as well (which by now would have up to 8 evolutions to choose from, making it even more interesting). And with both of the existing games giving you access to a set of traditional starters as well, one by one as you progress through the story (Colosseum had you "snag" a Bayleef, a Quilava and a Croconaw from some bad guys, while XD:GoD featured Kanto starters in similar fashion), it would nonetheless be appropriate for such a game to hand out some of the traditional starters as well. The idea I came up with, is that at 3 points in the game, you would be offered to choose from 2 Starter-Pokemon of one type, one that's more "classic" and one that's more "modern". I feel like Kanto starters would be almost obnoxious for this, as they're already pushed in every other main game anyway, but Johto starters on the other hand would still feel very appropriate as the "classic" option. For the modern ones, with this technically being a region based on part of the US, the initial reaction is to think of the Unovan starters. However, unlike some of the more recent starter sets, those starters weren't made to be representations of their region, as they instead represented a mix of different cultures (with Serperior representing Europe, Emboar China, and Samurott Japan)... so instead, I feel like Alola is the next best thing. In other words, the options I'm imagining would be these:first time reaching Agate: Chikorita or Rowletfirst time reaching Phenac: Totodile or Poppliofirst time reaching Pyrite (or some new place): Cyndaquil or LittenOther than this, I set out to fill the region with possibly up to 300 Pokémon, trying to keep it as diverse as possible, in terms of representing the different generations, as well as a balanced diversity of types, but also trying to include most Pokémon that are based on creatures that would naturally fit an Arizona-inspired region (but not using that as a limitation obviously). This is the Orre-Pokedex I came up with:https://ift.tt/2UdDqHl regards to legendaries, I kept the ones featured in the original games, while adding a couple of mythicals that would love to get some spotlight, as well as a handful of "post-game legendaries" that aren't really tied to their initial regions lore. Some of the thoughts that went into some of the sections include:The high amount of Dark/Ghost Pokémon around 1/3rd of the Pokedex is because of Dr. Kaminkos house making me imagine the entire section and forests around it being a bit more of the "spooky" kind... eventually ending with a bunch of Fairies as you get closer to Agate with its purification shrineB6 (where the Cipher lab is) would be home to a couple of space/alien related Pokémon, sort of as an Area 51 nod, hence Elgyem, Magnezone, Minior, Beldum..the rocky raised plateau east of Pyrite has sort of a "jumping off of cliffs" theme going on, hence Bagon, Drifloon, Gligar etc. Perhaps there'd be some kind of tool/vehicle you'd get to use to fly down from it as well.the Outskirts could have a role of making a couple of fossils availableC2, being a more secluded section would be home to more vicious Pkmn looking for a fight, hence the Fighting types and all the Pkmn with sharp claws etc. towards the endthe section going behind Mt.Battle in the north from the eastern side, would serve as the "volcanic"-themed area, featuring things like Coalossal, Salandit, Larvesta...This was just supposed to be a short exploration of the premise, but to be honest, I'm quite happy with the result and the idea has grown on me.Does such a region seem appealing to any of you? And if yes, did I do a good job of coming up with an interesting Pokedex for it? If not, what would you approach differently, how and why?Or would you even prefer to revisit Orre in a more conventional remake that was more like a remaster?...or is Orre not interesting enough to be worth revisiting either way? via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/2XkUJYF
