"How Pokemon Gyms (and by extension, the Pokemon League) works"

I've had this headcanon for quite some time now regarding the Pokemon League. SwSh supports this by showing how gyms and their leaders are similar to sports teams.I see the Pokemon League to be an association that oversees responsible raising and taking care of pokemon. Money raised thru gym battles and E4 challenges as well as the PokeMarts and Day Cares are used to fund Pokemon Centers, Gym maintenance and Pokemon research laboratories (Thus, making the regional professor a part of the League).Pokemon Gyms bring revenue to towns and cities which explains why most small towns have no gyms (yet). In return, some local businesses may show support by sponsoring gyms such as Silph Co. for Sabrina's Gym and Celadon Dept. Store for ErikaGym leaders are either appointed by the League or endorsed succesors of previous gym leaders (i. e. Flannery, Falkner and Janine). Elite 4 members are also appointed from the ranks of gym leaders. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/3h3Vpt8
