"Detailed Mega Evolution Breakdown (Generations Four + Five + Primal Reversions)"

#PokemonGO: This post contains all Gen Four and Gen Five Mega Evolutions, as well as Primal Reversions. The goal of these posts is to provide detailed PVP and PVE information about all Mega Evolutions, present and future. While most of this information is already confirmed, there is a bit of theorycrafting involving moves that Pokemon have in the main games but no in Pokemon Go, as well as how these Mega Evolutions interact with the current meta in Go Battle League. Due to how in depth this topic is, I can no longer contain all the information in two posts like I originally did a few months ago. (Original threads are located here and here.)Generation One Mega Evolutions are here.Generation Two Mega Evolutions are here.Generation Three Mega Evolutions are here.Generation Four & Five Mega Evolutions + Primal Reversions are here.Important Notes:Max CP assumes level 41 + 100% IVs.DPS is calculated against an undefined pokemon for neutral damage, with EXTREME weather.TDO in PVE analysis is shorthand for DPS3TDO.Ratings take into account only the new megas and Kyurem B/W. I have not considered unreleased pokemon as of October 2020.Niantic is aware of the backlash on how they implemented the Mega Evolution System, therefore is subject to change at a moments notice. The contents of this post should remain largely unaffected, however there could be small differences depending on what is changed.Energy costs appear to be tied to Walking Distance. 1km = 100 candies, 3km = 200 candies etc. Based on the 1,000 energy cap and pattern of energy costs, I'm claiming that 5km will be 300/60 energy and 20km will be 500/100 energy.RatingPVP ExplanationPVE Explanation☆☆☆☆☆ (Zero Stars)Not relevant at allNot relevant at all★☆☆☆☆ (One Star)Only relevant in specific cupsThere are better non-mega Pokemon, but are at least useful for the mega boost★★☆☆☆ (Two Stars)Only relevant as a specific counter against a top-meta pokemonBeat any non-mega Pokemon but are poorly typed or outclassed by other Megas★★★☆☆ (Three Stars)Only relevant in Premier League, or as a spice pickSolid options you likely already have good Mons of★★★★☆ (Four Stars)Overall highly relevantUseful against wide variety of bosses, typically best-in-type.★★★★★ (Five Stars)Meta-Defining Pokemon, extremely relevantBest of the best, no compromisesMega LopunnyMax CP: 3792 (6066 stat product)Type Change: Normal > Normal/FightingEnergy Cost: 200 initial, 40 subsequentGreat League IV: 1500 @ 0/13/11 lvl 15 (1542 stat product)Ultra League IV: 2499 @ 2/15/14 lvl 24.5 (3327 stat product)Future Moveset Expansions: Charm, Aura Sphere, Shadow Ball, Grass Knot, Payback*, Elemental Punches, Ice Beam, ThunderboltGL Rating: ★☆☆☆☆UL Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ML Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆PVE Rating: ★☆☆☆☆Boost Value: ☆☆☆☆☆PVP Analysis: Gains hardly any bulk, and there are better fighters out there. Interestingly, Lopunny has a lot of potential if it could only get any of its future movepool. Could see some use in GL where Steel and Rock tanks are common, despite the lower stat product in GL. In UL it gets a healthy increase to stat product, and its new typing type could potentially let it function as a specialized counter to Giratina, A.Muk, Snorlax, Lickilicky, and the two new mega Steel tanks (Steelix and Aggron). It has an incredibly poor fast movepool which is too restrictive. Ideal moveset could be Low Kick/Aura Sphere/Shadow Ball. Yikes.PVE Analysis: Nothing to write home about. With 16.202 DPS and 1949.3 TDO, it barely eeks out the win over Machamp, but loses to shadow Machamp. Strictly worse than Mega Lucario, even if Lopunny gets Aura Sphere. Normal has no place in raiding. Don't waste the energy.Mega Boost Analysis: Fighting is good, but Lopunny is trash. There's also Normal, but thats irrelevant.Mega GalladeMax CP: 3839 (5923 stat product)Type Change: N/AEnergy Cost: 300 initial, 60 subsequentGreat League IV: 1500 @ 2/15/14 lvl 14.5 (1473 stat product)Ultra League IV: 2496 @ 0/11/14 lvl 24.5 (3171 stat product)Future Moveset Expansions: Psycho Cut, Aura Sphere, Shadow Ball, Night Slash, Elemental Punches, Icy Wind, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Shadow SneakGL Rating: ★☆☆☆☆UL Rating: ★★☆☆☆ML Rating: ★★☆☆☆PVE Rating: ★☆☆☆☆Boost Value: ☆☆☆☆☆PVP Analysis: Gets equal boosts to attack and bulk. As far as Psychic/Fighters go, Mewtwo X has Gallade crushed statwise, although Gallade has slightly more bulk (but not much). What Gallade does have is Leaf Blade which is incredibly spammy and hard counters Mega Swampert, as well as Close Combat which allows Gallade an answer to Steel types. It also has access to Charm, which Mewtwo X lacks. However, there are better Charmers, better Close Combaters and better Leaf Bladers. Unfortunately, Gallade doesn't have the stats to try and be a jack of all trades. If it were lucky enough to get Psycho Cut, Aura Sphere and Shadow Ball (a moveset Mewtwo X would kill for), it could function as a hard-hitting Fighter with Ghost coverage, but that is highly unlikely. Best to leave it on the bench.PVE Analysis: Currently, it is outclassed by many non-megas as both a Fighter and a Psychic attacker. If (for some reason) you don't have even a regular Mewtwo, it beats Alakazam, so that's something.Mega Boost Analysis: Yet another Psychic Fighter. See Medicham and Mewtwo X for reasons why you'd avoid this, especially at Gallade's energy costs.Mega AbomasnowMax CP: 3449 (5848 stat product)Type Change: N/AEnergy Cost: 200 initial, 40 subsequentGreat League IV: 1500 @ 0/14/13 lvl 16.5 (1724 stat product)Ultra League IV: 2500 @ 0/12/15 lvl 27.5 (3706 stat product)Future Moveset Expansions: Bullet Seed, Shadow Ball, Earthquake, Earth Power, Icy Wind, Avalanche, Grass Knot, Rock SlideGL Rating: ★★★★☆UL Rating: ★★★★☆ML Rating: ★☆☆☆☆PVE Rating: ★★☆☆☆Boost Value: ★★☆☆☆PVP Analysis: Abomasnow had little use before, but buffs to Powder Snow and access to Weather Ball Ice let it become a fantastic option in GL and UL. If it got Bullet Seed for energy generation, Earthquake or Earth Power to cover its Fire, Steel, Rock and Poison weaknesses it would have some serious use. Avalanche would give more reliable Ice type damage, packing far more of a punch for just a little more energy. Lastly, Grass Knot would streamline Abomasnow's performance that much further. Currently, while it's not very viable in ML, Ice is an important type going forward and could be a dark-horse pick, especially with an expanded moveset.PVE Analysis: As a Grass type attacker, Abomasnow has 13.565 DPS and 1074.5 TDO. As an Ice attacker, it has 16.31 DPS and 2245.7 TDO, which isn't the worst, but Mega Abomasnow defnitely is a niche attacker, being most useful against Grass/Dragons, Ground/Dragons and Ground/Grass types, as it will net an extra resistance and thus a boost to TDO. However, you would generally want a Dragon type attacker to deal with most of those matchups.Mega Boost Analysis: Grass is decent, Ice is decent. Put them together and you get a decent boost. Primarily useful against Ground type bosses, though has extra utility against dual Ground Dragons, among a few other niche types.Mega AudinoMax CP: 2556 (5049 stat product)Type Change: Normal > Normal/FairyEnergy Cost: 300 initial, 60 subsequentGreat League IV: 1499 @ 0/14/14 lvl 23 (2381 stat product)Ultra League IV: 2498 @ 12/14/14 lvl 41 (4936 stat product)Future Moveset Expansions: Charge Beam, Surf, Psychic, Return*, Ice Beam, Icy Wind, Grass Knot, Shadow Ball, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Wild Charge, Elemental PunchesGL Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆UL Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ML Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆PVE Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆Boost Value: ☆☆☆☆☆PVP Analysis: I had high hopes for Audino. Its mega form adds almost exclusively bulk, it hits the UL CP cap at level 41, and the addition of Fairy typing all synergize to potentially make Audino viable. However, it lacks any good fast move and its best Fairy move is Disarming Voice. As it stands, Charge Beam is the only remotely useful fast move Audino could learn, offering poor damage and typing but decent energy. It could learn a wide variety of coverage moves, but without access to Charm or Moonblast, the Fairy typing is largely useless, as is the Normal typing. Hopefully Fairy will become better represented in the future and it'll get a chance to shine. Audino definitely has the stats to be a star in both GL and UL.PVE Analysis: Not even close to applicable for PVE with curent or future movesets.Mega Boost Analysis: Fairy is bad. Normal is bad. Audino should feel bad.Mega GarchompMax CP: 4583 (8157 stat product)Type Change: N/AEnergy Cost: 300 initial, 60 subsequentGreat League IV: 1499 @ 4/15/15 lvl 12 (1552 stat product)Ultra League IV: 2499 @ 0/12/13 lvl 20.5 (3352 stat product)Future Moveset Expansions: Dragon Breath, Dragon Claw, Dragon Rush*, Draco Meteor, Flamethrower, Shadow Claw, Rock Slide, Surf, Aqua Tail, Earth PowerGL Rating: ★☆☆☆☆UL Rating: ★★★☆☆ML Rating: ★★★★☆PVE Rating: ★★★★☆Boost Value: ★★★★★PVP Analysis: Garchomp gains massive buffs to attack. It gains a slight edge in stat product compared to regular Garchomp in UL which makes it safe to use, but it's ML where Garchomp's stats can really shine. Garchomp will fill the same role as before, but a lot more effectively thanks to the stat increases. Suffering from a double weakness to Ice is rather crippling, however, as the increased demand for Ice users could shut Garchomp down. It could be possible to build around it, though, especially if given Flamethrower as a better coverage option. Dragon breath and Dragon Claw would also increase consistency with Garchomp, and Earth Power would be slightly more spammy than Earthquake with the debuff chance as well. As far as Dragons go, Garchomp is near the front of the pack (though Dragons could see a decline).PVE Analysis: The awkward middle child of megas, worse than Primal Groudon as a Ground type attacker (17.406 DPS, 3207.3 TDO), and worse than Mega Rayquaza as a Dragon type attacker (19.968 DPS and 5554 TDO). Could only be viable if its unique typing allows Garchomp to squeeze out more TDO. Although it's worth mentioning that Garchomp is much cheaper than both it's legendary mega competition, while still putting out more than Salamence, or any other Dragon mega, for that matter.Mega Boost Analysis: Dragon is always huge, Ground also direly needs the boost. Combined, they are more than the sum of their parts, with Garchomp offering unique typing to go alongside. Bulk is average, not quite as good as Salamence but better attack to make up for it.Mega LucarioMax CP: 3874 (5781 stat product)Type Change: N/AEnergy Cost: 300 initial, 60 subsequentGreat League IV: 1500 @ 0/14/13 lvl 14.5 (1425 stat product)Ultra League IV: 2497 @ 1/15/13 lvl 24 (3062 stat product)Future Moveset Expansions: Shadow Claw, Meteor Mash, Extreme Speed*, Dark Pulse, Dragon Pulse, Earthquake, Elemental Punches, Rock Slide, Cross ChopGL Rating: ★★★☆☆UL Rating: ★★★★☆ML Rating: ★★★★☆PVE Rating: ★★★★★Boost Value: ★★★★☆PVP Analysis: Lucario's buffs are mainly attack, which is unfortunate for PVP. Still counters Dialga, and likely secures the win against Giratina, though numbers need to be run (Tina could survive a Shadow Ball beforehand). Will likely see a slight bump in ML ratings, especially with Kyurem B/W and Metagross seemingly being staples. Still functions well as a tank buster in all leagues. It has an incredible line up of future moves, Cross Chop would replace Power-Up Punch for much more damage, Shadow Claw would open up Lucario for some interesting charge combos, including Meteor Mash (!!!). The ideal moveset could be Shadow Claw/Meteor Mash/Cross Chop (or Aura Sphere depending on playstyle - but Cross Chop on a Mega is likely devastating on it's own). It could also learn some good coverage moves like Rock Slide or Earthquake for its Fire weakness. Currently, its incredibly useful and in the future, it could become a staple.PVE Analysis: Straight upgrade to the best Figthing type attacker in the game, not much else to say. Sports an insane 23.632 DPS and a sky high 7690.3 TDO. Definitely take the mega slot with this one.Mega Boost Analysis: Fighting is hugely useful, while Steel is basically only used for Metagross. Probably the best mega to make use of the Fighting boost, though. If given Meteor Mash, Lucario could be a contender, offering more DPS than both mega and non-mega Metagross, with far less TDO.Mega DiancieMax CP: NO DATAType Change: N/AEnergy Cost: NO DATAGreat League IV: NO DATAUltra League IV: NO DATAFuture Moveset Expansions: Smack Down, Rock Throw, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Dazzling Gleam, Moonblast, Earth Power, Gyro Ball, PsychicGL Rating: ★☆☆☆☆UL Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ML Rating: ★☆☆☆☆PVE Rating: ★★★★☆Boost Value: ★★☆☆☆PVP Analysis: Diancie isn't in the gamemaster yet so we have no clue what moves it'll have, but we do know what it could potentially get. Unfortunately there is no Charm (or any Fairy fast move) on that list, but Smackdown is a fantastic alternative, with Rock Slide and Moonblast both being premier STAB moves. It also gets a decent variety of coverage moves, though the only weakness covered is the Steel type weakness with Earth Power. Diancie's mega form basically swaps its attack and defense stats, which means mega Diancie will have huge power but very little bullk. Could be interesting as it would have attack power that puts Xerneas to shame, stronger than any fairy type in the game. Diancie's unique typing unfortunately comes with a 4x weakness to steel, coupled with low bulk would mean it'd crumple hard to Metagross and the like. For PVP, Diancie is likely better off non-mega, even then keep shields up to deal with Steelies.PVE Analysis: Will likely take the crown from Togekiss and Gardevoir as the premier Fairy attackers, possibly even in non-mega form. However, Fairy is pretty bad. Things look brighter as a Rock attacker, where it wipes the floor with Rampardos, offering 20.546 DPS and 4759.3 TDO with Rock Throw/Rock Slide, compared to Rampardos' 18.521 DPS and 2400.1 TDO.Mega Boost Analysis: Fairy is nearly useless, and unfortunately with such a min/maxed Attack/Defense balance, Diancie likely won't stick around very long. If only its regular form could get the boost. However, with a team of Rampardos or even Rhyperior, the boost would be crippling to the raid boss.Primal KyogreMax CP: 5294 (NO STAT PRODUCT DATA)Type Change: N/AEnergy Cost: (NO DATA)Great League IV: (NO DATA)Ultra League IV: (NO DATA)Future Moveset Expansions: Origin Pulse, Aqua Tail, Water Spout, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Icy Wind, Sheer Cold*, Earthquake, Body Slam, Rock SlideGL Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆UL Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ML Rating: ★★★★★PVE Rating: ★★★★★Boost Value: ★★★☆☆PVP Analysis: Kyogre gains a heap of attack power and just a little more bulk, which cements it at a comfortable place high atop the ML tier list. Forget about any other leagues though. When Kyogre gets Origin Pulse, it will likely be incredibly destructive. While it is completely serviceable with the current moveset, Kyogre could get more consistent if it gets Ice Beam or Icy Wind which are both better options than Blizzard. Not much else to say here: the best just got better.PVE Analysis: Even without Origin Pulse, Kyogre absolutely blows its normal form out of the water with best-in-class 19.909 DPS and 6461.2 TDO (more than double non-mega Kyogre!) Once it gets Origin Pulse, those numbers go up to 21.165 DPS and 8253.3 TDO, and it's likely that nothing coming in the future will topple this Primal Beast. We don't know if Niantic will count Primal Reversion as a mega or not, but even if that's the case, use your mega slot on Kyogre.Mega Boost Analysis: Mono-typing is a bit of a drag, and Water is just decent. All said and done though, no other Water Mega can come close to the bulk offered by Kyogre, which means you'll be providing the bonus for a long time, and using the best Water attacker alongside it. Cost is a big downside, but as with Mewtwo and Metagross, you're using Kyogre for the damage, the boost is just a bonus.Primal GroudonMax CP: 5294 (NO STAT PRODUCT DATA)Type Change: Ground > Ground/FireEnergy Cost: (NO DATA)Great League IV: (NO DATA)Ultra League IV: (NO DATA)Future Moveset Expansions: Shadow Claw, Smack Down, Precipice Blades, Lava Plume, Eruption*, Dragon Claw, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Overheat, Rock SlideGL Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆UL Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ML Rating: ★★★★☆PVE Rating: ★★★★★Boost Value: ★★★★☆PVP Analysis: Like Kyogre, Groudon gets loads of attack and a smidge more bulk. Unlike Kyogre, Groudon picks up a secondary typing. While this does give it a resistance to Steel, Fire and Fairy, it unfortunately comes with a double weakness to Water. Groudon also gains a weakness to Ground which pops up more and more all the time. Unfortunately, I think Groudon's reign of terror is over, given the rising threat of mega Kyogre and mega Swampert. However, if your opponent doesn't have an answer to your Groudon, you can enjoy a crispy STAB bonus to Fire Punch which will secure wins against Dialga and Metagross more reliably. No longer being weak to Ice or Grass is a plus too. Would likely need Precipice Blades to keep the ML throne, but is still incredibly useful. Could possibly have use in UL as a tank buster due to Fire Punch Spamminess, but you'd need to build around Groudon's weaknesses, and it would be pretty suboptimal.PVE Analysis: Same situation as Kyogre, best-in-class DPS at 18.602 DPS and a very respectable 4924.6 TDO, all without Precipice Blades (that number becomes 21.164 DPS and 8251.1 TDO with PB). Definitely worth the mega slot, assuming Niantic counts Primal Reversion as a mega form. May even see use as a Fire attacker if Groudon's typing is useful compared to Charizard Y or Blaziken (and it gets a better Fire Charge move).Mega Boost Analysis: Fire boost is good and Ground boost is necessary to let all the fantastic Ground Pokemon utilize their stats to their full potential, as Ground moves typically are garbage. Overall, a good combination and you're gonna be using Groudon a lot anyways.Mega RayquazaMax CP: 5119 (8906 stat product)Type Change: N/AEnergy Cost: NO DATAGreat League IV: 1499 @ 0/9/14 lvl 11 (1432 stat product)Ultra League IV: 2495 @ 1/15/14 lvl 18 (3094 stat product)Future Moveset Expansions: Shadow Claw, Waterfall, Fly, Dragon Ascent, Extreme Speed, Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor, Icy Wind, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, Surf, Rock Slide, Crunch, Earth PowerGL Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆UL Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ML Rating: ★★☆☆☆PVE Rating: ★★★★★Boost Value: ★★★★★PVP Analysis: Even though Rayquaza is banned in the historically power crazy Ubers format in the main series games, Rayquaza is likely to sit on the bench in PoGo. Still has incredibly lacking bulk, even though its attack is insane. You can build around Rayquaza, and maybe its slight buffs to bulk from the mega evolution will net it a few matchups, but still better off in PVE. Future potential moves offer wide coverage, but Rayquaza will likely need three entirely new moves to be viable (Shadow Claw, Dragon Claw, Dragon Ascent). Likely not gonna happen.PVE Analysis: Yes. Just yes. Incredible as a Dragon attacker with 22.924 DPS and 9339.5 TDO. The only better generalist is Mewtwo Y with significantly beefier stats. It doesn't take the Flying DPS nor TDO crown from shadow Moltres, with only 18.97 DPS and 4379.6 TDO, but it does beat regular Moltres. Once it gets Dragon Ascent, it could easily take that crown. Until then, it's defnitely worth your mega slot as a Dragon Attacker.Mega Boost Analysis: If I haven't made it clear, Dragon is one of the best types to boost. Putting that on the best Dragon attacker is a must. Regrettable that Ray's second type is Flying, but it is what it is.Sources & Credits: * IVs and Stat Product come from StadiumGaming and PoGoStat. * DPS Figures and other PVE references from from GamePress * PvPoke was referenced countless times as a baseline for PVP ratings and matchup data as well as Fast and Charge move data. * Special thanks to u/Jetson16 for his in depth look at PVE megas (nice spreadsheet!) * This thread on GamePress by u/CatEyePorygon is heaps helpful and I referenced it quite a bit. * Thanks to u/SenseiEntei, u/SnorlaxTrees, u/Mauro697, u/Eliwood_of_Pherae, and u/Daedalus871 for their corrections and advice. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/2Gz0OLt
