"0.191.0 Teardown Follow Up - Digging Deeper"

#PokemonGO: Hey everyone! So this was a pretty impressive update as we all know by now. It also appears to have been several feature branches merged in, some stuff being worked on around the time that Stickers were introduced. A lot of holes in the APK have been filled thanks to this update, so it's nice to see what appears to be months of hard work coming together. We have quite a bit of new information to report on after spending some quality time with 0.191.0, so let's dive in!Orginal TeardownHighlightsA new level cap reward comes from quests and is a new user stat (so you would unlock the ability to level up to X level from a quest for example)Several Quest updatesNon-Narrative Story QuestsStory Line Pre-Condition QuestsNew quest requirements for achieving:Pokemon LevelPokemon CPGBL RankEncounter a specific type of encounter (Incense, GBL mon reward, etc)Engage in a specific type of battle (Rocket, Training, etc)New GBL Cup FormatsPokemon limited to within two specific date rangesPokemon limited to within two specific level rangesXL Candy can be rewarded from quests and other loot rewards and appears to have a level capIt also follows the same structure as regular candy and Mega Energy so it's specific to each speciesBunch of Pokemon HOME updatesTransporter is an inventory itemPossible level cap to use the featureIt appears the class of the Pokemon (Legendary, mythical, etc) and if it's shiny or not will affect the costsThis information will be pushed to the Game Master so we can confirm that when it comesShop category to buy transporter energy if you want to skip the cooldown (probably based on classes)Forms will revert to a HOME form (it appears that one GO Form can have several HOME Forms but we'll need confirmation on that, but that makes sense to us)Tagging and Searching addedPretty much all the standard stuff we have seen from the text updates alreadyAdd, remove, delete tagsTags can have names and coloursSearching will show recommended searches (the filters we have seen in the texts)Levelling Past 40So lots of stuff have been added here. First off, the reward items we found many months ago (the ones that went to Level 50) have been officially added to the APK.A new LEVEL_CAP stat has been added to your PlayerStats (along with 5 obfuscated values which we aren't sure what those are).As mentioned in the original teardown, a LEVEL_UP_QUEST has been added as a `Quest Context`. But we also found a quest reward being added that rewards this level cap from above. So it does appear to level passed 40, you will need to complete some form of a quest, it will then reward you your new cap for you to reach. Also, it wouldn't be a new feature without its own tutorial so the level up page gets one as well.Non-Narrative Story QuestsIn addition to the level up quest, a NON_NARRATIVE_STORY_QUEST context was as well. Considering we already have story quests, perhaps this is a way to do Special Research with Willow talking to us?Story Line Pre-Condition QuestsA new precondition for being able to start a quest was added that requires a storyline to be complete. This could be the new quest delivery they announced for new players (so you aren't bombarded with a bunch of different quests right off the bat). One of these storyline quest conditions contains what we think is a name and description and then a couple of obfuscated fields so we aren't 100% sure what this actually is.New Quest RequirementsSeveral new Quest requirements have been added as well. This includes:Obtaining a certain Pokemon LevelAchieving a Max CPEarn a certain GBL RankEncounter something from the Encounter options (things like encounter a GBL Mon reward, or encounter a Photomomb Mon, or encounter something from Incense)Engage in a specific type of combat (GBL, Rocket, Training, etc)This one is very similar to other tasks, but this task specifically is looking for starting one of those battles... Guess that's different haha? There were also a few additional layers to these requirements as well, such as options to be specific to legendaries and having unique Pokemon teams for battle parties for example. So as you can see tons of new options to complete quests in the future.New Quest StatIn addition to all the new types of Quests we previously found (Walk with your buddy to evolve, earn X stardust, etc), a new Quest stat was added too. From what we can determine, it's similar to the DaysInARow requirement as it references a LastWindow value. We aren't entirely sure what it is, but our best guess would be another quest property that tracks a stat from a previous date or value. We'll have to see what comes of this.New GBL Cup FormatsWe found hints of this in our original teardown but taking a deeper look, we can confirm they did add two new types of GBL cup formats:Caught Timestamp ConditionThere is a date range so you can only use Pokemon caught between two sets of datesLevel Range ConditionThis is the one we found in our In-Depth Teardown, and it's what we thought, a Pokemon will be required to be between two different levelsSo this will be exciting to help mix up future GBL cups even more!XL CandySo XL Candy isn't actually new as we started to go through archives and it's been around in the code for a long time in various places (but never used). But in this update, there were several updates to make it usable.First up, it can be rewarded from quests. XL Candy follows the same structure as regular candy and Mega Energy (meaning it's tied to a specific Pokemon). It can also be rewarded as any standard loot item (GBL rewards, Pokestops, etc).It also has an error message if the player level is too low, which suggests this feature will be level gated.Pokemon Home IntergrationSeveral methods were added, for things like linking your Nintendo account, talking to the Home API, transferring, etc. All with their own unique error messages and status. All of these errors though have a player too low message, so that does imply there will be a level cap to sending Pokemon over. Now, this could just be for rollout purposes but it exists nevertheless. That unknown field that was added for the Transporter in the Game Master is now known as the Transporter Energy category (for the shop).A new item in your inventory was added called Pokemon Home (probably the transporter). It's a simple on/off for your own inventory, so it'll be like the camera or Sticker Inventory most likely. The inventory item itself however has three numbers attached to it (perhaps time limits?). On the note of the inventory, an actual inventory item called unknown_key was added. No idea what that is.Two new fields were added to each Pokemon's stats/data. Both obfuscated of course, but one is a toggle and one is a number so they might be related to HOME. Also, two new numbers were added to the upgrade fields of your Pokemon (things like level-up costs, candy costs for a third move, etc). The Game Master received a lot of updates here as well. New settings for each Pokemon Family, Home energy costs, Home Settings, and Home Form Reversions. As part of the Energy Costs setting, it appears that your class (legendary, mythical, etc) and if it's shiny or not will affect how much it costs. There are four numbers all added as part of this so we'll see these values when they are pushed and can report better then. The Form Reversions setting defines which from your Mon will turn into when transferred to HOME. We aren't sure which way it is, but what makes sense to us, is one form in GO can revert/change to any of the forms in Home. Like Gira-A can be both Gira-A and -O in Home. But we'll need to see how that plays out.And things like if you signed in, selected Pokemon, etc are sent back to Niantic for debugging (on that note there was also a whole section added for the new Search section getting telemetry too).Tagging and SearchingLots and lots of updates to the Tag feature we've been finding in the Texts. It doesn't seem specifically tied to HOME but my personal gut feeling is these were designed with HOME in mind. There were also several things added for Recommended Searching (which we think are the filters we've been finding in the texts). We know a lot about tagging from the Texts already, but to further back up how they will work, they appear to contain:An IDA nameA colourSome obfuscated value (grrr)And some methods for some pretty standard stuff like create, edit, delete, assign, etc tags were added.Tag settings and Recommended Search settings are both added to the Game Master so they can be customized and changed (and enabled). The tagging settings contain things like the colour options and a handful of obfuscated values that we'll start to piece together when they are pushed. The search settings contain a toggle to turn it on/off and then several obfuscated settings. I guess we'll see what these are when they are pushed as well.Pokecoin Quest System RemovalThey didn't completely remove the entire quest coin system from the game, but they have removed the coin quests from the Today view. It's rare they actually remove things so I guess they are committing to getting rid of those for now.MiscA second Sableye Costume 2020 form was added but marked as deprecated. Poor deprecated Sableye, we never knew ya.A few obfuscated fields were added to Pokestops. The updates to background music we found during the teardown have also been added to the Game Master. So we should be able to see what music is playing now.And finally, it appears that Niantic Social received some settings to control a min level for using it, showing Online Status, friends list, and a max friends per page setting. This actually goes with some texts we found earlier that a friends list is coming to Niantic Social specifically.-PokeMiners via /r/TheSilphRoad https://ift.tt/3kPtChG
