"Next-door Pokemon flashes shiny in overworld?"

#PokemonGO: I have no video evidence of this, but I swear it just happened. You know how sometimes as you're catching a Pokemon, as it's getting sucked into the ball, its shiny colors flash quickly on the screen? Well, I just clicked on a Duskull and as the scene was zooming in to the catch screen, the Alolan Ratata right next to it flashed its shiny form. So I quickly jumped out and clicked on the Alolan Ratata, and, sure enough, it was a shiny (my first, in fact). I maybe should have jumped back out and tried to record it happening again, but I kind of panicked and just caught it instead.Anyway: has anyone else noticed this happening? Is it a known "feature"?
