"What do you think Heartgold Soulsilver could've improved on to make them the best games in the series?"

I think HG/SS are very close to being the best games in the series, but a lot of little problems bring it down. I think Johto is the second best region in the series (next to hoenn), and it has amazing music and visuals. But i think HG/SS could've done even more to make the region better. The celebi event should've been part of the game and not an event. You didn't even have to catch celebi, but seeing the rivals' origin story would've been nice if it weren't locked behind an event that you can't access anymore.Pokemon like Murkrow or Houndour should've been moved to Johto and available in the main journey. I know the original G/S/C also had them in the aftergame, but no one liked that, and it would've given us more dark types to choose from that wasn't just Umbreon. Sneasel being moved back to Ice Path like he was in Crystal would've been nice tooPhanphy and Teddiursa being available early like they were in Crystal would've been great. They could've been version exclusives just like they are right now but still available to you before Falkner. I'm not sure why they made it so they could only be acquired so late in the game, especially since neither really learn that great of moves in the first place.Movesets of pokemon could've been done better. I think giving Meganium giga drain as a level up move would've really helped it and I think more people would choose Chikorita if it had better level up moves. Or give Natu/Xatu a level up psychic move that you didn't have to wait until level 59 to get (seriously it doesn't even learn confusion). Give donphan the ability to learn dig and learn Earthquake at an earlier level. And a lot of good moves are learned much later in levels for a lot of pokemon, and given how by the main game you'll only be around level 35-38 unless you grind, good movesets are hard to come by. I think unlimited TMs would've worked great in Gen 4, honestly. The elemental punches should've remained TM's, though I'm aware that HG/SS does make up for it in level up moves for the pokemon these punches are usually used for (Feraligatr gets ice fang for instance)Make thunderbolt, flamethrower, ice beam easier to obtainExpand the lore of the Unknown and the Ruins of Alph. I always felt this area of this game was very unexplored and was missed potential. Solving some puzzles and catching the unknowns is all you do here. I think more backstory or a quest involving the unknown that's not just catching them would've been solid and expanded the story of the games. Maybe have Entei be a boss fight instead of a roaming here.Make stones easily available. HG/SS does have the pokeathlon but getting stones that way takes forever and other that you have to rely on the trainers to give you the items. If you just get their phone numbers, then your chances of getting the stones is a lot higher but even then it's not guaranteed. I think every gen should give you the option to buy stones like you could in gen 1/remakes.That's really it. What do you think? I honestly think if most (honestly even some) of these changes were implemented, I would have HG/SS as my favorite Pokemon games, but these problems do add up to make it my third or fourth instead. I honestly don't even mind the level curve problem the games have; i just think the movesets should've accommodated for the levels.EDIT: I've learned that you can get murkrow and larvitar early in the safari zone after the fifth gym, which is good, but larvitar won't evolve into tyranitar before Kanto since it evolves so late at level 55, and murkrow isn't great without honchkrow which you can't evolve until post game. Plus i never minded Larviar being at Mt Silver only. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/2KsmSto
