"A New Idea for an Evil Team"

A while back, I made a post about having a jerk, regional Champion and was pleasantly surprised by the positive feedback and those who added to the conversation. So much so, that I decided to expand on a little tidbit from said post: What would my idea for a new crime organization?First thing I would do is to make a change to what we've always known what an Evil Team should be; a giant collective of clothing-coordinated people united under one cause. The change up I propose is one under the saying, "Less is more," and make it a three person crime cell. Three highly-trained, er, trainers that make their moves with precision and little to no detection. How do you make something like that work? If I were making this game, I feel like this would work if the player's journey was nonlinear (it would be a "limited" nonlinear, but I think you get my point). The first gym you visit would always be the same, but after that you get to choose the order of the next six gyms (two groups of three with the first and last gym being the same) with you apprehending one member of the cell by the fourth gym and the second after the seventh. And yes, from what I alluded to from my last post, the third member of the cell is the one to humble the jerk and assume the title of champion. The team's motivation is something I thought about when I first saw Leon's character design from Gen 8 with all those sponsors on his cape. While Leon is a decent guy, my champion would be looking for any excuse to grab more sponsors and collecting all those royalties. My three man cell would be fighting against the idea that we can throw all this money into a few select trainers and giant stadiums while some towns, cities, and even Pokémon habitats are struggling.Who are these three individuals? While I don't have names for any of them, I do have some quirks for them.Improv: the way this trainer works is that they are very good at thinking on their feet and can make the best out of any situation (the muscle of the team, if you will). Their Pokémon team reflects that concept by consisting of mons found within the nearby routes. If you ran into them during the first half of the game, their teams would be a pretty straight forward battles with mons you've seen already. If you ran into them during the second half of the game, they'd be the same but would actually use TMs to help type coverage.Tech: they perform their tasks with the latest and greatest tools available and won't settle for less. Their Pokémon team reflects this by employing rarer mons you won't see until the League or post-game (no worries, they won't have any pseudo legendaries). If you're locked into them during the first half of the game, the bizarre Pokémon would be enough to leave the player guessing, but nothing too crazy in terms of strats. If you run into them during the second half of the game, they are more likely to switch and heal frequently.Leader: ask any of the three who the leader is and they'll tell you that there's no leader and that it's a joint effort, but based off of their designs, Leader definitely would give off Big Boss vibes compared to the others. Not only that, but they ultimately are the ones who started the small group after their dad's gym went under due to lack of proper funding from the Pokémon league. Their team is pretty standard for a champion, but some highlights would be good type coverage, a pseudo-legendary, perhaps an actual legendary from the region, and the same starter you picked. But what about the grunts? How can you grind towards the leaders if it's just the three of them? I have two possible solutions. The first solution is the team to hire sellswords, er, sellballs? We'll just go with mercenaries. These guys are just looking for a job, no questions asked. I think this would work because since the original three don't have a coordinated looked, the odd mercenary here and there wouldn't clash. The second solution is to have random trainers in the wild become so enamored with the three's cause that it inspires them to become better trainers and because there's no uniform look, you have no idea which trainers are "normal" or which have become followers. And yes, depending how you proceed in the game, you could end up facing regular ol' Fisherman Oswald and his three Magikarps or Zealot Fisherman Oswald and his three Gyarados.Sorry this went long, but that's my pitch for a new evil organization in a hypothetical Pokémon game. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this idea. via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/2R9YPm9
