"Breeding is AWFUL in Scarlet/Violet"
I don't know why they've done this. Breeding has always been the one thing where they've always managed to either improve the QoL or keep it mostly the same. At this point it has to have been done on purpose. For those unaware of the new mechanics:You now have to AFK in order to generate eggs. This means you can no longer hatch eggs while simultaneously obtaining more, vastly increasing the amount of time it takes to obtain hatched Pokemon.Eggs generated while AFK cap at 10. This means you still have to check the game every few minutes, leading to the awful combination of being forced to pay attention to the game while unable to actually play it.You can no longer hatch multiple eggs simultaneously. If you have multiple eggs in your party that were obtained at the same time, you need to complete a new egg cycle each time one hatches - even if they're all ready to hatch. There are no longer any indicators for when an egg is available, how compatible your Pokemon are, how much time Egg/Hatching Power has remaining, or when Egg/Hatching Power has expired. This might not be a big deal to many players, but as someone who's had hundreds of hours shiny breeding in each game since XY this is a huge blow to how much time and enjoyment I'll get out of the game. Gamefreak clearly understands what the gameplay experience is like and how to improve it, and there's no justification for regressing this much. It's the same as removing the sound/particle effect when a Shiny spawns - the QoL has been made significantly worse for no reason. I don't know if they're planning to release a daycare in the DLC, or just phase breeding out of the games in favor of Bottle Caps, or what, but regressing this much is just miserable. You should definitely do your breeding in a different game if you can, and then just transfer up once HOME is out. Good luck to those of you going for shiny Paldean starters, you'll need it.EDIT, for clarification:An egg cycle is NOT the full time it takes an egg to hatch, it's the set number of steps it takes for an egg to progress its hatch timer (which then varies based on Pokemon species). In prior games, it takes 1 step for an egg to hatch once it has 0 egg cycles remaining. In SV it takes another full egg cycle, which is an additional ~20-30 seconds per egg. (This is also how the Flame Body ability works! It doubles the amount of egg cycles deducted while walking, rather than changing the hatch time of each and every Pokemon species).I'd also like to clarify that this specifically is a problem for Shiny breeding, which takes hundreds or thousands of eggs and is the only way to obtain Shinies of Pokemon that don't appear in the wild (such as the starters). Casual breeding of 10 or fewer eggs isn't really affected by this change, but breeding large numbers is certainly a much longer and less time-efficient process than it was in prior titles - and most of that time is spent staring at the screen unable to press buttons! via /r/pokemon https://ift.tt/r7faxsV
