"Gym battles"

#PokemonGO: Any find it very underwhelming and not worth it to level up a gym to add your Pokemon?A few times it has happened to me where I walk the distance, find a gym, sit there for 10-15 min gaining xp. And then someone in a car drives up, fights twice, takes 4K xp and drives off.Meanwhile, here I am. Only getting 3-500 xp at a time whereas they take away 4x that much during the same time frame.Kind of pointless if there is no "defending" gymsEdit* a lot of good points have been made, I was originally intended to complain about how quickly someone can drive up, knock off all the xp you gained within minutes and there's nothing you can do about whilst sitting right there.
