"App Version 37.0 Initial PoGoPlus Distance Test shows ~1.6x distance logged vs actual distance."

#PokemonGO: Hi all,I took some time before work to run a straight-line distance test with the PoGoPlus. Summary results below, followed by full data. I still use Pokemon Go version 37.0. I have an AT&T Android 6.01 Galaxy S5 Active. I will do more tests tonight. Check back around 9pm PST if you are interested. Second Test Data is at the bottom.SUMMARYCurrently, you get extra distance when traveling under the speed limit and using the app & the PoGoPlus at the same time. I don't know if using standby mode will give the same results. My tests showed you get ~1.6x the actual distance. The PoGoPlus has natural occasional inaccuracies in location pings, which may result in extra distance.Full Data & ProcessI have a straight bike path in my area. Google Maps says one segment is 717 meters (2,355ft) long. I performed 5 tests this morning by traveling the full 717 meters above and then recording distance. My app and the PoGoPlus were open and connected at all times. I did not interact with the PoGoPlus at all (several pokemon and a Pokestop are on the route). Before and after each test, I waited 4 minutes for the app to update the distance displayed. I also ran a GPS speed app to track speed. I did not record Buddy distance initially.Slow TestsTraveling under 10.5km/hr provides the best results and in both cases resulting in over logging distance. For traveling 717 meters, I received ~1.6x that distance.Fast TestsTraveling fast was generally awful. I received ~ .35x distance when traveling above 10.5km/hr. My first high speed test was very bizarre: I gained ~3.5x the distance for that test. I cannot account how this extra distance appeared, because I waited 4 minutes in the same location between each test. My best guess is that the natural occasional inaccuracy of the PoGoPlus location pings caused this.FULL ALBUMTest 1 - Traveling Below 10.5km/hrStarting Egg Distance: .57Resulting Egg Distance: 1.73kDistance Ratio: 1.62xTest 2 - Traveling As Fast As I Can (~20km/hr)Starting Egg Distance: 1.73Resulting Egg Distance: 4.22Distance Ratio: 3.47x (I have no idea why so much distance was gained here.)Test 3 - Traveling As Fast As I Can (~20km/hr)Starting Egg Distance: 4.22Starting Buddy Distance: .3Resulting Egg Distance: 4.51Resulting Buddy Distance: .6Distance Ratio: .40xTest 4 - Traveling At Moderate Biking Speed (~15km/hr)Starting Egg Distance: 4.51Starting Buddy Distance: .6Resulting Egg Distance: 4.72Resulting Buddy Distance: .8Distance Ratio: .29xTest 5 - Traveling Below 10.5km/hrStarting Egg Distance: 4.72Starting Buddy Distance: .8Resulting Egg Distance: Null due to hatching halfway along the path. The new egg I placed in it still got .77km as a final result, which is ~1.4x gain.Resulting Buddy Distance: 2Distance Ratio: 1.67xSecond TestHere are the results for the second test. All of these were under 10.5km/hr. These compared PoGoPlus tracking to non-PoGoPlus tracking. Both tests showed extra distance gained, while PoGoPlus had more on average. The gain seen here is smaller than the gains I saw this morning. /u/S2Slayer pointed out that 4 minutes may be too short, as some distance from the PoGoPlus takes 8 minutes to appear. He is correct. I waited an extra 4 minutes for all tests (except the first one), and extra distance showed up after that.Test 1 - PoGoPlus OnStarting Egg Distance: .62Starting Buddy Distance: 1Ending Egg Distance: 1.43Ending Buddy Distance: 1.9Distance Ratio: 1.13xTest 2 - PoGoPlus OnStarting Egg Distance: 1.43Starting Buddy Distance: 1.9Ending Egg Distance: .72 (previous one hatched)Ending Buddy Distance: .8Distance Ratio: 1.80x (Inflated due to not waiting an extra 4 minutes during test 1)Test 3 - PoGoPlus OnStarting Egg Distance: .72Starting Buddy Distance: .8Ending Egg Distance: 1.65Ending Buddy Distance: 1.7Distance Ratio: 1.30xTest 4 - PoGoPlus OffStarting Egg Distance: 1.65Starting Buddy Distance: 1.7Ending Egg Distance: 2.59Ending Buddy Distance: 2.7Distance Ratio: 1.31xTest 5 - PoGoPlus OffStarting Egg Distance: 2.59Starting Buddy Distance: 2.7Ending Egg Distance: 3.3Ending Buddy Distance: .4Distance Ratio: 1xTotal Distance traveled with PoGoPlus during test 2: 2.15kmTotal Distance received with PoGoPlus during test 2: 3.03km (Gain of 1.4x)Total Distance traveled without PoGoPlus during test 2: 1.43Total Distance received without PoGoPlus during test 2: 1.65km (Gain of 1.15x) via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2cBbx41
