"Observation: Does that pokemon keep breaking out of 5 great balls? It's probably not worth catching anyways."
#PokemonGO: I've noticed for a while that sometimes moderate CP pokemon keep breaking out of great balls - these are the eevees that aren't 900+CP that I'd ultra/rasp to evolve immediately, but still high enough that I can't just use a regular pokeball. I've noticed anecdotally that after spending 5-6 great balls to catch it, the appraisal almost always sucks. On the other hand, most of the 90%+ IV pokemon I've caught on the first or second ball. Thinking about it more, CP is only a proxy for pokemon level, which is what determines catch rate. For example, a perfect lv19 eevee will be ~600CP, but your horrible 0% IV lv25 eevee will also be ~600CP. All you see during the encounter is CP so you can't tell the difference immediately. But if it starts breaking out of balls at a much higher rate than you'd expect for its CP, it's probably not worth catching. I suppose you could argue for stuff like pidgeys/weedles it's always worth catching if you're grinding XP, but most of the time I'm just not interested in spending 6 great balls on a CP400 paras with crappy IVs. I used to always try to catch everything thinking "what if this is the 100% IV eevee I've always been looking for?!" but now I realize, don't feel bad about running if a pokemon keeps breaking out of balls - it's probably got crappy IVs anyways. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2dZTvdj
