"A summary of the community's goals for gyms, and a framework on how to acheive them"

#PokemonGO: I think I've read most of the gym discussions here. Here are some goals that people seem to want to accomplish; note that some overlap.Make it so an attacker can take down a Level 10 gym in about 30 minutes.Attackers should be rewarded for winning multiple battles in one attack run; right now the opposite is often true.Make it so a defender can add a level to a gym in about 10 minutes (for higher levels).BubbleStrat should go away.So should the ability/incentive to use an alt account to take out the 10th level and put in your own guy.High-level gyms should last a few days, but not weeks.Add more strategy to the selection of both attackers and defenders.Have a reason for keeping a wide roster of different Pokemon in your collection. The more time you invest in the game, the better the gym experience should be...... but more casual players shouldn't be locked out.In furtherance of these goals, here's a framework. Please note that the numbers are fungible and would need to be tweaked/tested.Gym Defending and PrestigingGym defenders should be ranked by the Pokemon's level, not their CP. CP should be used as a tie-breaker. This would increase gym defender diversity. This furthers a few goals -- it'd make it harder to take down a gym, as we'd get better defenders than Dragonites everywhere, and we'd also have some defender mixes which are hard to beat with a six-team attacker squad. That adds a strategic level to the game which it lacks right now (except when it comes to Prestiging). It'd also give you a reason for having a lot of different (high-level) Pokemon. It maintains the status quo of rewarding higher level players by giving them better spots in the gyms.Putting a 10th guy in a gym should get a 10,000 Prestige bonus, bringing the gym to 60k Prestige. First, it reduces the incentive to use a friend (or a second device) to open a spot for yourself -- it'd take a long time. Second, it'd help casual players a lot. If you can Prestige a gym from 9 to 10 but are putting in the lowest level Pokemon, right now, you'd be a fool to do so; it takes one battle to drop a gym from 10 to 9, but ten battles to go from 9 to 8. This fixes that problem.Prestige should be reverted to the old formula, but with a cap for low CP gaps. To explain: You should get 100 Prestige for a win, minimum; 500 for beating a defender of equal CP; and 1000 max (for double CP difference). However: the Prestige should also be capped at the Defender's CP (or 100, whichever is lower) or maybe some multiplier times the Defender's CP. The first part of this change -- plus the fix below -- would make it possible to from from level 9 to level 10 in about ten minutes; the second part effectively kills BubbleStrat because you'd only get 100 Prestige by beating up on that 21 CP Horsea over and over again. When you pick your first Prestiger, the next five Prestigers should be your next five CP guys, auto-selected by the app. Example: I have a 650 CP Raticate. I pick that for slot one, and it pops in my next five guys -- all of whom are under 650 CP. I can override this by picking a new guy for the second slot and so on, but the first pick brings a good squad for me. Maybe not perfect, but the real value of the backups are to save a battle in case of a faint anyway -- and maybe to get me through a second or third battle. This would make it easier to Prestige by making it faster to pick your team. Note that combined with the item above this, we maintain a lot of selection strategy and also have a reason for keeping a wide roster of Pokemon.Gym Attacking(I haven't had a lot of experience in the new 1k per battle format, so I can't talk too much about the numbers there; I'm going to use 1k as a baseline.)Give bonuses for each battle won during an attack. Win the first round, knock off 1000 Prestige. Win a second, it's an additional 1100. A third, 1200. A fourth, 1300; and so on. Add another 1000 for a full clear, and if your six guys can take out ten defenders, that's 15,500 Prestige gone. That's a 50% bonus from bouncing off the lowest level guy ten times. This makes it easier to attack, adds incentive to fight long attacks, adds strategy to attacker selection (maybe), and benefits higher level players in a way that doesn't really hurt lower level players. Also note that a 60k Level 10 gym becomes a Level 9 gym if you win eight battles in one run.Rework attacker selection so that you can select your six attackers at once. When you hit the Attack icon, you should go to a Favorite or CP-sorted (by default) version of your Pokemon collection screen. Tap a guy and he should go grey until you've tapped six guys; those six are your attackers. This will make attacking faster.Add the ability to revive/heal attackers on the "You Won/Lost" screen. Another easy way to skip some unnecessary steps and keep the gym battles going. via /r/TheSilphRoad https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/5c5o1j/a_summary_of_the_communitys_goals_for_gyms_and_a/?utm_source=ifttt
