"Gym stagnation is a product of opportunity cost, not prestige mechanics."

#PokemonGO: How to fix gym stagnation is simple. You increase the incentive for taking gyms down. You do not need to keep rolling out updates that re-balance prestige gained/lost for training vs. attacking. Right now most people report that it takes 45min-1hr to take a level 10 gym.In the time you spend battling, you could be catching pokemon for the same xp it takes to beat just 1 defender, and more if you take advantage of the throw bonuses. Walking around allows you to catch pokemon, hatch eggs, and earn candy with your buddy. You get more xp from not battling, plus candy and stardust.Raising the xp gained from beating defenders and the bonus from clearing a gym in one sweep would increase incentive to battle. You would actually want to take down level 10 gyms, because the reward for your time would be well worth the effort. However, I do not believe this change will be implemented for a simple reason. When you are battling, you aren't walking. Thus, Niantic's health and exploration goals are not met from encouraging people to sit at a park bench for 1hr battling the local gym.In my opinion there was an intentional omission of an end game. Niantic wants you to keep walking around, exploring, and catching pokemon. RNG ensures that you will end up dissatisfied with some of your evolutions, and thus incentivize you to keep playing to evolve pokemon with better movesets.Pure gameplay mechanics are lacking, the gameplay mechanics of catching pokemon has more thought put into it than battling them. Catching: You can curve, not curve, time for a smaller circle for nice/great/excellent throws, choose to use a berry. Battling: You can tap to attack, hold to charge, and swipe to dodge. It is harder and more skillful to catch a Pidgeot hovering far away, than it is to battle with one.It is important to remember that Niantic is a mapping company, not a gaming company. via /r/pokemongo http://ift.tt/2fAwmz3
