"[PSA] What to expect when you post: "I'm traveling to [foreign country] and i need a [regional spawn]"."

#PokemonGO: I've noticed this post quite a bit and wondered what advice i would give mathematically, so i looked at my own account. I'm in North America, so this is Tauros country. Per my Pokedex, I've seen 41 Tauroses and caught 31; Tauros has little value to me now so i don't assign a high value on catching them anymore. Sometimes i let the Pogo+ just take one shot at them in fact. Overall i have caught 13,382 mons per my journal. That means on average just 0.23% of my catches were a Tauros. Even using the more generous "seen" value of 41, that percentage is still just 0.31%. In another way, 1 out of 326 mons i have caught have been a Tauros or Tauros sighting. I have been playing since July 9, or for 114 days. I have played pretty much every day and average 117 catches per day. So on average, this North American player will come across a Tauros once every 3 days.326 is quite a few mons, so don't be disappointed if you are in the States on a business trip for a few days, try to squeeze in an hour or two of Pokémon Go to catch that Tauros and don't nab him. Likewise, other travelers shouldn't be too bummed when they strike out getting that Mr. Mime, Kangaskhan or Farfetch'd. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2f0LK9W
