"After all this time, I just realized what Star Pieces are."
The game describes them as "A small shard of a beautiful gem that demonstrates a distinctly red sparkle." They've been around since Gen 2 when they were just "A hunk of red gem." Stardust is "pretty red sand", implied to be finer grains of the same substance. But what does any of this have to do with stars? Well, guess where you can find substantial red gems, as far back as Gen 2?Staryu and Starmie.Yep, these pretty red gem fragments are literally pieces of star-shaped pokemon. And guess what items those pokemon are holding in the wild? Stardust (50%) and Star Piece (5%). In Gen 4, you can also dig up Star Pieces in the underground, alongside fossils of other pokemon. More recently, the games have introduced the rare Comet Shard, the sprite of which is just a blue-colored Star Piece, and which sells for an incredible P30,000. Shiny Staryu and Starmie have blue gems. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2gBsI7I
