"[Sun/Moon] Making an automatic SOS shinyhunter with only Lego Mindstorms pieces"

After several days of toil, I've managed to create an automatic SOS shinyhunter using only the pieces I could salvage from an old Lego Mindstorms set I had.http://ift.tt/2hngDr0 case anyone else cares to make a robot like this with limited resources, I'll go over the setup I used to make this chainer work. Now, considering that SOS chaining is somewhat complicated (switching the caller, recycling Leppa Berries, recovery, Odor Sleuth, etc.), I had to make modifications to the standard chaining process to make it more efficient for a robot with limited pieces. I needed the machine to work on as many Pokemon as possible, including Ghost types; however, at the same time, because I only had 3 motors, the machine would only be able to press 3 buttons on my DS- perhaps up to 6, if I was willing to drive myself half-insane. As that's the case, the setup and team used to make the robot work is just as important as the robot itself:To use this chaining method, you'll need a LOT of Leppa Berries, ideally as much as the bag can hold. If you can, fill Isle Aplenny in Poke Pelago with them.Hypno @Leftovers-SwitcherooAraquanidAbility: Water Absorb-EntrainmentSmeargle-Aqua Ring-Nasty Plot-Cosmic Power-Baton PassSmeargle-Surf-Soak-False Swipe-Sketch (so that Smeargle won't be prompted to learn the move)Tapu Koko-Thief-False Swipe-Thunder Wave-RoostSwitcheroo Lefties onto the target Pokemon.Switch into Araquanid and use Entrainment to add Water Absorb to the target Pokemon.Switch into the first Smeargle; set up Aqua Ring, Nasty Plots, and Cosmic Powers until you no longer can.Baton Pass into the second Smeargle.Use an Adrenaline Orb.Set up the Bag and Fight menus to default to Leppa Berries and Surf, respectively. At this point, I place the DS in the machine, and it will repeat the final two steps until a shiny is encountered:Use Surf 10 times.Open the bag and use a Leppa Berry on Surf.Every time it uses a move, the machine waits for a little over 30 seconds before proceeding with the next move. Not only does the Entrained Water Absorb render the original caller immune to the Smeargle's Surf, but it also heals it for a quarter of the mon's max HP. Because Struggle always only damages the user for a quarter of its maximum HP, through Water Absorb recovery, the original caller will heal back the self-damage caused by its Struggling on any turn Surf is used. Additionally, the Lefties recovery allows the caller to compensate for the turns when the bot uses a Leppa Berry and Water Absorb does not activate. As such, the original caller can never Struggle to death. This process eliminates the need to switch callers, meaning that a shinyhunting machine only ever needs to press three buttons to chain indefinitely: the L/A button, 'Fight', and 'Bag'.If the color sensor over the top screen sees yellow (i.e. the yellow of the shiny animation), the device will immediately freeze, leaving me to catch the shiny by hand. In the event that the machine tries to kill a shiny, I have a touch sensor hooked up to the NXT that will immediately stop the system when pressed. I can then use Thief to steal back the Lefties from the original caller and wrap up the chain. Now, due to the nature of this system, this machine does have two limitations (that I could think of): it cannot shinyhunt Pokemon that are normally yellow, and it cannot shinyhunt anything that may be immune to Water-type moves. The first limitation could be circumvented with a better sensor (perhaps something to recognize the shiny sound?), but the second one would likely require a complete reworking of the setup to avoid. So, that's the shiny hunter. I know I'm not the first to create a shinyhunting robot, but I may be one of the first to create a robot that can SOS chain (beyond Dittos). Hopefully this helps anyone else interested in creating a robot like this. via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2haPgeZ
