"We're using Pokémon Go for science. We're looking for people to take part in our academic study of physical activity, motivation and Pokémon Go!"

#PokemonGO: Hi there! You all have a really interesting subreddit here, and I have to say a huge thanks to /u/dronpes for giving me the go-ahead to post this.I'm James and I'm doing my Final Year Project for a degree in psychology. Specifically it focuses on Pokémon Go and fitness apps/trackers such as Fitbit, Apple Watch etc.If you're interested and you'd like to take part you can visit the project website. We're looking for people with daily step count data from June-September 2016; even if you haven't played Pokémon Go much or have stopped playing. I've attached some frequently asked questions below to give you a good idea of the project. What is the study about? This study investigates whether playing the popular augmented reality game Pokémon Go impacts significantly upon activity levels, as recorded through players' own mobile and wearable devices. How does this benefit people?Provided we get enough responses, we may be able to explain the behaviours of players and contribute to research which helps similar games become even better. This could benefit people who are both drawn to games and want to be more physically active. Physical activity is also known to help with mental health issues. Your participation in this may even have an impact on future research that could help people get mentally and physically healthier. How long will it take?We estimate that this survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.Who is running this study? This survey is being conducted by James McCleane-Fay as part of his final year project for a degree in Applied Psychology from University College Cork, Ireland. You can contact him via email at j.mccleanefay@uccpokemonproject.com. This project is supervised by Dr. Conor Linehan who can be reached at conor.linehan@ucc.ie.What's required to participate? In order to take part in the project, you will need to have a fitness app that's compatible:Apple Health, Fitbit, Jawbone, Google Fit, Microsoft Band or WithingsWe are looking for people who have and haven't played Pokémon Go, and are willing to answer a few questions. How is my data used?Any information you provide will be anonymised. We don't record the time you do it, IP addresses or set cookies - anything that can be used to identify you. For your fitness data, we remove everything in the file or files you give us; except for daily step count data from June-September 2016. We are bound by the Psychological Society of Ireland's Code of Ethics. The ethics board in the Department of Applied Psychology at UCC have approved our project. As psychologists and technology researchers, we completely understand privacy concerns and do our best to be as clear as possible about what is done with your data. If you have any questions or concerns you can email us and we will respond within 48 hours. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I'll be checking this on and off if you have any questions! You can find the project website, including the survey, at http://ift.tt/2gJFlxU. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2jFYJMW
