"TIL The Locations of Pokémon and The Levels They Evolve Actually Make Sense Scientifically"

I was sitting in my natural resource science class today and we were talking about predators and prey, and what niches they fall into in an ecosystem. We broke down species into two groups, Generalist, and Specialist. I’ll make an example out of Bug and Dragon types, Bugs being generalists, and Dragons being specialists. You could say the same about other types but these are just the ones I chose. So scientifically speaking the niche of bug-types in the Pokémon world is wide, meaning that they play many roles in the ecosystem and are extremely abundant, they can also inhabit many different environments. Think about the diversity of areas that bug-types are found in game, forests, fields, trees, mountains, desserts, seashores etc. Whereas compared to dragon-types (excluding legendaries) you’re typically going to have to traverse some type cave or mountain environment, and in some rare cases water and swamp environments. (ie. The Skrelp, Horsea, Dratini, and Lord Goomy lines.)This brings me to evolution. For some background, evolution occurs over time across generations and Generalists (Bug-types) have a much higher general rate of evolution compared to specialists (Dragon-types). This means that because generalists are able to reach maturity faster than specialists, they’re able to produce subsequent generations in a shorter amount of time. The science doesn’t quite line up here, but think of it like this, Caterpie-->Lv.7-->Metapod-->Lv.10-->Butterfree compared to Gible-->Lv.24-->Gabite-->Lv.48-->Garchomp and how long it would take to hatch a Caterpie egg(2560 steps) to a Gible egg (10240 steps)Anyways this is the product of my infatuation with natural science and my addiction to Pokémon. If you stayed to read, I hope you enjoyed because it was fun question to hypothesize :) via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2k4Nu0n
