"How can Niantic fix the envitable, escalating problem of an increasingly large Pokedex as generations are added?"

#PokemonGO: I know it's only just dropped, but already this is something I'm noticing with Gen II: rare pokemon across the board are getting even rarer as there's more "competition" from both generations of pokemon for a limited amount of spawns. Speaking for myself: Gastly, Drowsee, Geodude and Caterpie all used to be at least common and at most omnipresent in my city, but I've found maybe a dozen of those total in the ~10 days since I rejoined the game. This problem is going to get exponentially worse with over 700 Pokemon in the current games, and it's going to affect rare spawns the worst. Even major cities like mine have at least a couple and at most dozens of pokemon that either require you to go far out of your way or actively hunt for to find (which is fairly subjective, but here, that would be the Hitmons, Ekans, Mankey, Vulpix, etc), and with anywhere from a handful to a couple dozen releasing with every generation, those are going to become extremely difficult to find as they're crowded out. Not only will this frustrate players who take breaks during content droughts and come back after an update to find that the elusive pokemon they were hunting before are even more difficult to find now, but it'll also serve as a turnoff for new players who enter the game and see hundreds upon hundreds of blank spaces in their pokedex and just get discouraged. So, how can Niantic get out ahead of this problem? Increasing the pokemon spawn rate or the number of nests across the board won't work, since you risk overwhelming the player with too many spawns and also possibly forcing them to run out of balls or berries as they try to keep up (which is already a problem for rural players). Making the most recently-introduced generation's pokemon the most common isn't a solution either, since it just makes the previous generation's pokemon that were already hard to find even more difficult. Meanwhile, lowering the amount of candies required for evolution or increasing the amount gotten from each capture will just make the game more monotonous for players in regions where certain pokemon are plentiful. What do you think? via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2n70hEP
