"Post-Game Analysis: Why the past 3 titles have failed at keeping endgame content "fun"."

X/Y, OR/AS, and Su/Mo have all mistaken replayability with additional/new short-story content. The Looker/Emma, Zinnia, and Looker/Anabel campaigns at the end of each game feel like an attempt to prolong the game, but fail at being memorable without further exposure to these interesting characters. We'll start with a summarization of post-E4 content in previous titles, and how GameFreak has gone "1 step forward, 2 steps back" on this subject, starting with Gen 3:FR/LG:Introduction to more Sevii Islands, Johto Pokemon, VS Seeker battles have altered trainer Pokemon levels, Trainer TowerEmerald:Trainer/Gym Leader Match Call Rematches (all with heightened levels), Move Tutors, Fossil Cave, Battle Frontier (introducing Nature oriented battles, Style Judgement battles, Pyramid Wild Pkmn/Random floor generation, Rental Battles, and Tourney Battle mechanics), Lati@s roaming, and both Legendaries from R/S roaming locations.D/P:Lackluster post game, similar to Ruby/Sapphire, demanding repetitive Tower battles.Platinum:Gym Leader Dojo, trainer rematches available via Vs Seeker, altered Battle Frontier with more constrained Battle Mechanics (i.e. Post-match Restoration, Specific Typing battles, Roulette battles causing stat changes or status conditions), House with limited http://ift.tt/2mbqHnC, Kanto exploration/gym battles, Battle frontier facilities identical to Platinum, Custom Safari Zone, Trainer Rematches, Gym Leader rematches, Move Tutors, Weekly Radio music attracting foreign Pokemon per route.B/W:Hunt down sages, Battle Tower-esque facility, majority of trainer battles are ONLY once a day.B2/W2:Pokemon World Tournament, Battle Tower-esque facility, seldom trainer rematches, Pokestar StudiosX/Y:Looker/Emma side quest, Battle Tower-esque facility. No trainer rematches, sparse material aside from E4 rematches/breeding/battle maison.OR/AS:Zinnia Sidequest, Trainer-eyes rematches (No Gym Leader rematches), Battle Maison from X/Y with Battle Frontier tease, Move Tutors, Secret Base battles, Contests (latter 2 can be done before end-game)Sun/Moon:Looker/Anabel Ultra Beasts mission, alternating E4 'champions', Battle Tower-esque facility with greatly increased difficulty compared to prior games, Island Scanner, no trainer rematches aside from E4, GameFreak, and Battle Buffet. While doing this analysis, I searched for content with enough diversity that it bled over to postgame, or content unlocked only after postgame. Emerald and HG/SS soar beyond other titles with endgame content, drawing a conclusion that they can still be played with wild diversity years later.Sun & Moon had a great story and sense of exploration, but the continuous removal of content compared to previous titles is shocking, especially with the last three titles. The purpose of this post was to draw attention to the diminishing quality of content after the E4 in recent titles. I'm curious what /r/pokemon thinks, what would you like to see done in the next release? Did I miss anything with vast content in my analysis? via /r/pokemon http://ift.tt/2ma0VjU
