"[Discussion] Moveset collectors, quo vadis?"

#PokemonGO: TL;DR: Some trainers, myself included, have been collecting all possible movesets of all final Pokémon evolutions, including legacy moves. With the recent introduction of Gen2 and many more moves, this is quickly getting out of hand, especially for active gym battlers who will also have to maintain a roster of specialized prestigers etc. Unless we get an option to buy more storage soon, we won’t be able to continue with this, which leads to the question: Where do we draw the (new) line? Below, I’m listing some of my thoughts and would love to hear how my fellow collectors are or will be handling this. Why collect movesets anyway? It started in July with me being new to Pokémon and having no idea which Pokémon and movesets were any good. So I kept everything that was different from what I already had. I read and learned and played, but still collected everything, and one day I realized I had a couple of complete sets of 6 Pokémon with different moves. I thought that was cool and that was when my collector gene kicked in.It turned out to be useful in a couple of ways so far:The moveset lottery is far less frustrating. It gives me something to do when not much else is going on in Pokémon Go (like in January, or now). After the recent moveset rebalance, I already had the new best Jolteon (and a few others) up my sleeve.Legacy movesets! I have plenty of them now. :-)The problemIt is obvious that people like me won’t be able to continue with this for long if we don’t get more storage or an option to store our Pokémon externally (Pokebank). We will need to draw a new line that’s a bit stricter than “all possible movesets of all final evolutions”.Things I’m considering so far:Discard all pre-evolutionsCollecting final evolutions only was easy in Gen1. With the introduction of Gen2, though, I’m pondering three questions:Do you still keep one of each Golbats (for example), as it is the final evolution in Gen1, or do you evolve them all to Crobat and keep only the final Gen2 evolution? Same thing with future evolutions: Do you keep one of each possible Murkrow, or do you save only the best to evolve to Honchkrow and then collect those?Do you treat babies differently than other pre-evolutions? Or do you evolve them all and keep only their final evolution? What about Gen1 evolutions with legacy moves? Do you keep your legacy Golbats, or do you evolve them to Crobat, too?Discard all completely useless Pokémon and movesetsEven with the upcoming gym overhaul, I think none of us has illusions about the future usefulness of our complete Seaking collection. So, do you consider releasing all your Seakings, Fearows and the likes, and switch to only collecting movesets of Pokémon that have at least a small chance of becoming useful?Same thing with garbage moves (no STAB, not SE against any common defenders). Do you consider releasing those Pokémon?Discard different types of Hidden PowerI have a soft spot for Starmie, because I lucked out early in the game with a 97.8 % Water Gun / Hydropump Starmie who was my go-to attacker for a long, long time. So I always kept more Starmies around than anyone would ever need. But now, after the introduction of different types of Hidden Power, there are far too many possible combinations. How do you treat Hidden Power? Discard all types that don’t get STAB on the specific Pokémon?Discard reeeaaaally bad legacy movesetsSeeing that we’re already running out of space as it is, will any moveset-completist really look for a Bite/Twister Gyarados when trading is introduced? Do you think you will want to have it anyway, simply because it’s no longer obtainable? What about the great gym overhaul?I think there’s a good chance that CP won’t be the only thing that will decide about gym placement in the near future, and we will hopefully see more diversity among defenders and hence different Pokémon might be become useful as attackers or prestigers, too. If you’re already trimming down your collection, how do you account for this? Anything that you would otherwise toss, but keep to be prepared for the gym changes?Final wordsI am aware that this kind of Pokémon collection seems to be utterly pointless to the majority of trainers. But I know there are a few likeminded collectors out there, as I have met a couple of them in comments to other posts (Hello!). So I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts. :-)Edit: formatting (proper sub-headlines) via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2oMUcv6
