"Stamina is Broken - Here's A Simple Fix (and other stuff too!)"

#PokemonGO: Stamina in Pokemon Go takes the Main Series games (Gen 6 stats) and just doubles the HP stat. This in effect makes walls/tanks much, much more difficult to KO than intended (Blissey). But it also make glass canon's even more delicate (Gengar, Espeon, Alakazam, etc). I know that a lot of you are saying to yourselves, "But we finally get a good defender with Blissey!" Well honestly, I hate fighting Blissey, and not because I might timeout either. Rather, fighting Blissey, you just pick your highest DPS Pokemon (usually Dragonite, Tyranitar or Exeggutor) and tap away. It's pretty boring to fight Blissey, but I digressThat said, let's move on to the fix. Here's a look at the Pokemon with the Highest and Lowest Base Stamina (I ignored unevolved mons)Blissey: 510Wobbuffet: 380Shuckle: 40Dugtrio: 70Now the massive disparity between (we're not going to fuckle with Shuckle) Dugtrio and Blissey shouldn't be as large as it is. While there should indeed be a large difference between them, Blissey's Base Stamina is over 600% higher than Dugtrio. The fix is simple. Add a number to Base Stamina that corresponds to a Pokemon's level (ie a lvl 20 Pichu & lvl 20 Tyranitar would have the same number added to their Base Stamina)The issue is with how Base Stamina is calculated. Instead of doubling the HP stat from the main series, (Pkmn's lvl+5)*2 should be added to it. The reason for the +5 is because I wanted Pokemon with a Base Stamina (currently) of 180 to be the datum, which effectively means that Pokemon with a current Base Stamina below 180 will see a buff, and Pokemon with a Base Stamina above 180 will see a nerf.Blissey: 345Dugtrio: 125Percent Difference=176%Here's what the new top 10 would look like if this was implemented.PokemonOld Base StaminaNew Base StaminaOld CPNew CPTyranitar20019036703583Dragonite18218135813572Alakazam11014528873266Espeon13015530003249Gyarados19018532813240Rhydon21019533003188Flareon13015529043145Kingler11014526943048Donphan18018030223022Heracross16017029383021Wut? Alakazam is beastly? and KINGLER!? What the Flareon is going on here!Hold on to your Horseas Travelers, REMEMBER in the CP formula both Stamina and Defense are square rooted, so Pokemon with a high attack stat will have a higher CP than Defensive Pokemon (Steelix) and Stamina Pokemon (Blissey), so this is actually how Niantic designed it. Pokemon that can output damage the fastest have usually the highest CP.The problem here is that CP is used for EVERYTHING! Niantic should split CP into Attacking Combat Power (ACP) and Defensive Combat Power (DCP) - it's not the best solution, but I think Niantic would be willing to actually implement this. For ACP, the formula can stay exactly as it is (CP formula) with the Attack stat being the most important.ACP=(ATK+IV)*(DEF+IV)^0.5*(STA+IV)^0.5*CP_MULTIPLIER^2/10  For DCP, Defense should be the most important, followed by Stamina, with Attack being the least important. So slightly more complicated than saying "ATTACK stat! Yeah Buddy!"DCP=(DEF+IV)*(STA+IV)^0.75*(ATK+IV)^0.5*CP_MULTIPLIER^2/40 So DCP would be what would rank you in gyms and ACP would be what you see when you attack/prestige a gym. Top 10 ACP is the same table as above (as the formula didn't change), but here's the top 10 ranked by DCPPokemonOld CPDCPACPBlissey321937782665Steelix243934092547Cloyster247532862873Tyranitar367031313583Snorlax335530102984Dragonite358129453572Rhydon330029303188Golem291628732998Donphan302228233022Gyarados328127943240As you can see, Blissey STILL, despite being hit the hardest by the Stamina rebalance, far outstrips the competition. Steelix and Cloyster, because of their extremely high Defense (and Stamina buff), are now second and third respectively. Tyranitar and Dragonite still rank pretty high up because of their elite stats. Otherwise, no surprises. Unfortunately, my fully powered up Umbreon isn't in the top 10 (he's 15th)The point of separating CP into ACP and DCP was to hopefully get separate teams for attacking and defending (thus increasing the amount of usable Pokemon). If we cross reference the ACP and DCP tables we find that there are now (hopefully) 15 Pokemon usable in the new meta vs the "Big 7" we have now. Shout out to u/va_wanderer for his thread here that got me thinking this way.TL;DR:1) Change how Base Stamina is calculated by adding the (Pkmn's lvl+5)*2 to the main series HP stat rather than multiplying it by 22) Split CP into Attacking Combat Power (ACP) and Defensive Combat Power (DCP) to differentiate Pokemon that should be used on defense and Pokemon that should be used on offense via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2qBdHvi
