"A detailed look at the berry feeding limit"

#PokemonGO: By now it is (somewhat) common knowledge that when feeding gym defenders, 10 unique pokemon can be fed every 30mins and each pokemon can be fed 10 berries in 30mins. However, I have not seen any articles detailing the exact mechanics for these time windows. I did my own testing and here are my findings. You can feed 10 unique pokemon in a rolling 30min time window. For example, if you feed 4 pokemon at 1pm and another 6 at 1.15pm, you will not be able to feed any new pokemon until 1.30pm, where you will be allowed to choose 4 new pokemon to feed. You can feed a pokemon 10* berries in a fixed 30min window that starts when the first berry is fed. This counter is reset after the 30min is up, and should you choose to continue feeding the same pokemon, a new 30min timer will begin when you feed it the first berry. For example, if you feed a pokemon 5 berries at 1pm and another 5 berries at 1.15pm, you will not be able to feed it anymore berries until 1.30pm, where you'll immediately be able to feed it the full 10 berries should you want to. If say you proceed to feed it 3 berries at 1.40pm, a new timer starts and you will be able to feed it 7 more berries in the next 30mins, until 2.10pm when it resets again. Note: The counter doesn't reset if the pokemon gets booted from a gym and slotted into another gym, it only resets after the 30mins is up.I like to think of it this way: Imagine feeding pokemon to be like putting marbles into boxes. Each pokemon has a unique box, and each box can contain 10 marbles. When you feed a pokemon whose box you don't have, you're given the box for that pokemon and you put a marble in it each time you feed it. At any one time, you can only have 10 boxes, and each box disappears 30mins after you obtain it. If you try to feed a new pokemon when you already have 10 boxes, you're not allowed to. If you try to feed a pokemon when its corresponding box is full (has 10 marbles), you're not allowed to. If this analogy confuses you, maybe just stick to the earlier explanations, I just find this works for me.* I noticed that very low CP pokemon (like cp10) will only accept one berry of each type, so you wont even get to feed it 10 berries. As of now I'm not sure how this works, whether it's tied to the pokemon's cp or level and what the cutoffs are. It'll be great if someone could do the necessary science for this. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2t6fj1n
