"Tested: Buddy Eevee evolved at night does turn into Espeon if under the midnight sun."

#PokemonGO: TL;DR: If you are north of the Arctic Circle (or south of the Antarctic Circle), you will be limited to evolving Espeons in summer and Umbreons in winter.Image "proof": http://ift.tt/2trjGD4 little bit of research probably won't be useful for a great number of trainers, and it only confirms what I guess we all already knew. However, I couldn't find anything about it when searching through the subreddit, so I felt it had to be tested. For science and getting me an Espeon with a better moveset. For most of my life, I've lived north of the Arctic Circle. We experience midnight sun in the summers and polar night in the winters. This is, since an update last winter, reflected in the day/night cycle in the Pokémon Go app. My map stays in bright blue and green colours all through the night in summer. My hypothesis was that the day/night cycle in the app decides whether the outcome of a buddy Eevee evolution is Espeon or Umbreon no matter how late it is. I had prewalked an Eevee the requisite distance and on a late night gym run with my family I decided to test this hypothesis. Ten minutes before midnight I switched my buddy to the Eevee and pressed evolve. Sure enough, it turned into an Espeon. This has a couple of implied consequences. First of all, for a set time period each summer, trainers north of the Arctic Circle and south of the Antarctic Circle (if there are any trainers in Antarctica) have no way of getting an Umbreon (other than waiting or travelling across the circle to where the sun sets.) Secondly, the inverse is obviously going to be true for winter and Umbreon.Furthermore, we can expect that this mechanic will play a part in some evolutions in gen4 and beyond, as per this excellent discussion of different evolution mechanics by /u/wanjan . If these are implemented thusly in Pokémon Go, this could lead to interesting situations for trainers in the far north or south, at least if updates hit during summer or winter. One could argue that this is a bit unfair, but I prefer to think of it as a rather cool feature and I wonder whether it was intended - something Niantics engineers had in mind when they updated the way the day/night cycle works. via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2trL4kh
