"The new end game for PoGo?"

#PokemonGO: With the last upgrade, the number of players playing Pokemon go, apparently lead the app to be more profitable. I have my opinion on this matter, and with the arrival of good weather and student´s vacations, I have my doubts about the correlation and causality of the two events. Nonetheless, I would like to discuss the vast change in game objective and motivation that the upgrade took.Pokemon Go has one main objective: to catch them all. If you are an urban player, the amount of gameplay that you need to put it to reach a plateau is actually 2-3 weeks. After the disappointing launch of gen 2, most of the players I knew, had the complete pokedex (without unkown) and this objective was quickly achieved. Playing more does not help granting you the missing Pokemons, only by travelling and changing your location vastly helps. This continues to be the same before and after the update.Having placed the main objective of the game easily achieved, we go to the next motivation. There were several objectives that were all linked together making a vicious feedback closed cycle, very different from the current days. Before the upgrade, everything was if you think about it, ultimately, about gyms. The cornerstone of the game was to be present in the biggest number of lvl 10 gyms. For such dominance, having high level CP monsters was essential. Upgrading the monsters required one to have candies and dust that could only be achieved by playing a lot. A 20 Cp difference was crucial and for such aim, leveling up yourself was also important. Hence, playing a lot would allow for you to level up and to upgrade your monsters. Going from level 34 to 37 was an insane amount of work but it would grant you at the gym a better spot. Note that, as it is now, you could still place low level pokemons in gyms. Also note that they would be removed by most of the times by shaving and not by enemies. Furthermore, one would need to prestige and prestiging was great to add value to every single pokemon. That 300 Cp paras you caught? just evolve it and you will get a superb prestiger. When it´s dead, just save potions and revives and send it to the good doctor. Every single caught pokemon had a function and a use. Strong pokemons for gyms, medium pokemons for prestigying, weak pokemons for grindingWhat everyone was upset about the game before the upgrade, was stagnation. What Niantic failed to understand was that the stagnation was caused by shaving. Shaving and cheaters were populating the gyms leading players to loose interest. Now we get to the update. After you do all your efforts to complete the dex what is there outside? Gyms are taken down, very easily. As all pokemons decay, battles are easy and it only takes 3 attacks. Your attacking team of 6 now only attacks 6 other pokemons while before had to attack 10. Even if you don´t manage to win to all, you are going to send some away, making it very easy to change hands with in a very short amount of time. This is if you actually want to give coins to the opponent team. I know many players who actually refuse to attack gyms with certain players there since it will give them coins. The logic is completely reversed. Strong pokemons are now uselless in the gyms. Just for the purpose of testing, I have been leaving pikachu´s CP10 when my friend leaves Blisseys 2900. They hold up exactly the same amount of time since it only takes 3 battles and the 2nd and 3rd one are just tapping. A player´s level is no longer important for game dynamic, so leveling is not longer a motivation, other than bragging rights. If the strong pokemons are useless, what is the hype about raids? Yes you can get a perfect snorlax or a perfect tyranitar, but what are you going to do with it? They will be strong enough to go and do more raids, and then what is the purpose? While before, every single pokemon caught was a small step helping achieving several objectives, they are now completely useless. What is your motivation with the new update? via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2tAtrx5
