"Fast forward one week. What to do with Golem?"

#PokemonGO: Let's assume no more legendaries will follow after Zapdos raids are gone (I'm looking at you, Ho-Oh). What do you do with your Golem? I know, he is a supercool rock with a funny animation, but what do you use him for once the birds are gone? The Pokémon it can be used against as a super effective attacker pretty safely are (only taking at least mediocre fully evolved Pokémon into account):CharizardJolteon (requires to use TMs for getting Ground moves - assuming Golem has double rock moves, obviously)FlareonHoundoomLooking at what it can hit for nice damage while receiving neutral damage, we get a few more:ArcanineDragoniteCrobatAll other Pokémon it could potentially hit for SE damage can fire back SE moves, too (Cloyster - 2x, Lapras - 2x, Typhlosion - 2x, Ampharos and quite a few more) so it's not a very good choice against those. If we include Gen3 (which is at least around a handful of corners as opposed to the following Gens), it doesn't look that good either. The only Pokémon it can somewhat counter is Salamence, which punches back with neutral damage. Funnily, Salamence could get Hydro Pump in the main game series through breeding, so there is that slight chance it can even hit Golem for 2x SE damage. With his base Attack (would be 277 at the current state so nothing to laugh about), it would pretty much turn Golem into pebbles.Looking at the "normal" raid bosses it can work against Flareon, Charizard and Jolteon, but I have to admit I have yet to see a single person going for any of those raids (I would like to go for Jolteon raids since I lack high IV ones, but noone feels the same and soloing it is probably impossible). While raid bosses may be shuffled, the potential list above is rather limited from the beginning.Maybe I am overanalyzing it based on type effectiveness, but what will be his purpose? The thoughts above kept me back from powering up Golem at all. I would have loved to be one of the few players out there who can say they have beaten Moltres as a duo, but I had neither the stardust nor (especially) the many high IV Golem in first place making powering them up only a matter of saving a little time against a raid boss.I get there are players who probably had just barely beaten a legendary raid boss because of their Golem army and I feel really happy for those players, but in the many cases where it wasn't that close: Is/was powering up Golem really worth it that much in the long run? Wouldn't e.g. Tyranitar have been a better candidate to spend stardust on (easier to get a high IV one through raid boss, no need to be evolved in that case, better generalist, etc.)?If I am missing some big points (besides that "no matter what sits in a gym, if someone wants to take it down he will do so" which has been true for me since ever because my team selection made me more ambitious about battling), feel free to elaborate and shed a light on that one. I would really appreciate it!Greetings, via /r/TheSilphRoad http://ift.tt/2vNWnVA
